pink and green tutu TUTORIAL

In case you missed it, I was invited to guest post at Crystal's Craft Spot last week where I shared a tutu tutorial. Here it is.......

Today I'm going to sh0w you how to make a pretty tutu for your little girl to dress up in!
For supplies all you need is your tulle (I think I used about 3 meters in each color), elastic, and sequins and/or flowers to embellish it at the end if you desire. (BTW, I didn't end up using both the flowers pictured here, I just went with the green one.)

Image

You will also need scissors, needle and thread, and a glue gun if you decide to add flowers at the end.
Cut your tulle into 2 inch strips that are twice as long as you would like the length of your tutu to be at the end. I ended up having about 70 pieces of tulle in each of my colors...

Image

Measure the child's waist and subtract a couple of inches because we're using elastic for the waist. Sew the ends together.
Next, slip the elastic past your knee because that's an easy way to tie the tulle strips onto it. Fold each piece in half, then tie it on like so...

How much easier does it get?!! Keep on going now until your tutu is looks as full as you want it to look!

You can either leave it and you're done.............

Which is totally fine. It looks really pretty like this.

OR you can jazz it up a bit more! I made this one for my six year old niece to play dress-up with, so I wanted it to be more flashy! So I sewed the sequined piece of elastic around the top, using my needle and thread.

Then I added the large flower using my glue gun. Here's the finished product:

And in case you're a new reader of this blog, here are the ones I made in the past for my daughter........

I made this pink one so she could be a ballerina for Halloween:

.............................................................

My daughter is going to be a ballerina for Halloween. I thought it would be an easy, comfortable, and CUTE!! costume for her.

So of course I was excited to make her a tutu! I was happy with how it turned out:

Here were the supplies before I got started...

I also used a needle and thread to sew on the sequins.

It is so flashy and pink. The sequins brought back memories of the dance costumes I wore for my ballet and jazz dance recitals when I was little. Fun stuff!

Isn't she the most beautiful little ballerina ever?!! I love her :)

girly trick-or-TREAT bag

Yesterday I whipped us this bag for my daughter to take trick-or-treating using a gift bag from Michael's that was $1.49 and some scraps of scrapbook paper.

Image

I inked and distressed the edges, added the letters, and then some stick-on pearl embellishments. I tied some pink tulle to the top. The project took about 5 minutes, including clean-up! So easy & I think it will be fun with her ballerina emsemble!

tulle headband

Tulle hair accessories are another thing that have been floating around in blog-land for a while now. Here's my version:

Image

I cut a small circle out of felt.

Image

Then I cut some strips of tulle, then tied a knot in the middle of each. (I used 4 of these pieces for this headband.)

Image

Then I attached the first one to my felt circle using a glue gun.

Image
Then I added the next ones:
Image
Then I attached a thin piece of elastic to the other side of the felt circle.
Image
Next, I wrapped the ends of the circle around the elastic with more glue:
Image
Here's the finished product. I was going to add a rhinestone to the centre, but it was bulky enough in the middle with all the knots.
Image
I made the elastic a bit too big for my baby, but it will fit her better when she's a bit bigger I guess. How cute will that look when I make her a tutu to match?!
Image

I'm having a blast making all these girly things! :)
