I put together a little DIY Aztec coin pouch pack for the abcd social/ Etsy craft party on Saturday 7th June 2014. I had so much fun putting it together... love having a project to do!
So here is the Aztec coin pouch tutorial:
This Aztec design has been created with a hand cut stencil which is then used to hand screen print using eco friendly ink.
Materials in pack:
2 x hand printed Aztec fabric - 55% linen and 45% cotton
2 x interfacing
2 x lining fabric - 100% cotton
1 x 10cm metal zip
1 x grosgrain ribbon for zip pull
What you will need:
- sewing Machine - zipper foot
and zig zag/general foot
- off white cotton thread
- scissors
- pins
- iron
Step 1:
Iron (low heat) interfacing with the rough side down on to the back of the hand printed fabric.
This will give the fabric a bit more weight.
Step 2:
Place one piece of printed fabric on the table face up - then place the zip - top side down on the top edge of the fabric. Then place the lining fabric (do a bit) facing down on the edge of the fabric.
My lovely Mother -in-law likes to call this a "zip sandwich"! :)
Step 3:
Using the zipper foot - sew along the edge close to the zip. You will need to unzip the zip once you are about halfway and continue sewing.
Step 4:
Repeat step 2 and 3 for the other side of the zip.
- Try to line up the pattern as below
Step 5:
Using the iron, press both sides of the fabric so the zip seams are nice and flat.
Trim any loose threads.
Step 6:
Open the zip ¾ of the way - this is important because if you don't you won't be able to turn the pouch inside out when it's finished! It can be a major disaster!
Step 7:
Place the hand printed fabric right sides together and do the same with the lining fabric - pin together.
Tip: hold pattern side together, up to the light, to match the pattern up.
Step 8:
Using the zigzag/ general foot - sew together around the edge, leaving a gap at the bottom of the lining fabric.
Tip: to make sure that you are sewing around the pattern side equally (curves can be a challenge to sew) Hold pinned pattern side up against the light of a window - use a tailors chalk or pencil to lightly trace the edge of the pattern... this will help when you are sewing :)
Step 9:
Cut a few notches around curved parts of the pouch - this will create a smoother curve once turned inside out. (you can use pinking shears for this too)
Step 10:
Turn pouch inside out through the opening and then hand stitch the opening closed.
Step 11:
Press the pouch with a warm iron and then add ribbon to the zip.
Woo hoo… you have a lovely new little coin pouch!
Enjoy! xxx

***happy new year***
Happy New Year! I am really looking forward to see what 2014 brings... I feel it's going to be an AWESOME one!
We had a wonderful Christmas and new year break... lots of relaxing! I am totally refreshed and ready to jump back into it all again! I had a total break from screen printing which was really hard to do, because I love it so much but I did get to work on a few other projects.
I whipped up an new oven mitt for the kitchen and made myself a new messenger bag! Love my new bag!
I also decided to dress kitty & bear up as robbers to make them look a bit more boyish for a friends little boy... they also could be off to the movies with 3D glasses on with bags of lollies! :)
Once our holiday break was over I went on a screen printing frenzy... it felt soooo good!
...and my new obsession... gold metallic ink! Love it!!!
I'm looking forward to getting some new things in my little Etsy shop soon!
Hope you all had a lovely time over the holiday season!
Hope the new year is a fantastic one!

Etsy Pop-Up Shop Sydney
It's been very busy around here lately... lots of things happening especially as Christmas is just around the corner.
I am so excited to be apart of the first Etsy Australia Christmas Pop-up store in Sydney which is on between 28th November to 12th December at 74 Castlereagh Street Sydney!
So there has been a lot of screen printing, sewing and making frenzy going on around here and I'm loving every minute... writing lots lists and crossing lots of things off them! Love it!
I just love the whole process of making something for my little Etsy shop! Cutting out panels for screen printing... so much satisfaction in a big pile of cut fabric! I can never get sick of screen printing... I still hold my breath a bit when I lift the screen to see the print underneath... I think it's a miracle every time :) Sewing and more sewing... sooo satisfying when they are complete! Love it!
So these little darlings went for a trip to the Etsy Christmas Pop-up store.
Then I went along to check it all out... it looks just lovely! So many gorgeous things made by some amazing creative people! So much inspiration!
Not everything got displayed as they had so many things sent in but they do change the displays around so hopefully my Fuchsia Poppies pouch gets a showing!
I was so thrilled and proud to see my little things in the shop... it really made my day! :)

made by hand: my rope vessel obsession
Last weekend I attended a little rope vessel making and decorating workshop by the super lovely Gemma Patford at Koskela. Gemma was so generous with her knowledge and gave us loads of tips and tricks! It was so lovely to sit around and have a little chat while crafting! SO much fun!!
I think I may have a new obsession! I couldn't wait to get home and have a go myself! I had my fingers crossed that my sewing machine was up for the job! Phew lucky it was!
I have a feeling there will be quite a few rope vessels being made around here! LOVE it! :)
Hope you had a wonderful and creative week!

my creative space: bunny purse
I have been itching to make some thing cute for ages! Today I was suppose to be making things for my Etsy shop but instead I decided to make a fun little bunny purse/bag for my little niece's birthday! I got the idea from by elke... they are so cute, I just couldn't resist making one!
I raced off to spotlight fabric store and bought some lovely yellow pinwheel corduroy and yellow spotted seersucker! My niece loves yellow!
There was not pattern available on "by elke" so I drafted my own ... it was pretty easy!
Then I got sewing... I held my breath the while time, hoping it was all going to turn out ok and luckily it did! Voila,... a very cute little bunny purse/bag!
Oh and I added a little pom pom tail too! :)
I'm so happy with how it turned out! I love it so much... it will be hard to part with but I know my little niece is going to absolutely love it!
Hope you are having a great creative week!

my creative space: my creative space
This week I have some very exciting news! I had a VERY special visitor come and snoop around my place on Wednesday... the gorgeous Kirsty from My Creative Space... Woo Hoo!
There was lots of chatting and photo taking for a post which will be posted on My Creative Space Tour - justb. early February! Very exciting! It was so wonderful to finally meet Kirsty, she also brought along her lovely friend Kate from one flew over! Great fun! And of course I couldn't help myself, I screen printed and made Kirsty a special little "Feather arrow" linen pouch, which she absolutely loved! It's always so much fun to hang out with fellow creative/inspiring people! Love it :)
Also, I can now reveal a few things that I made for Christmas. I knitted a cute little bunny softie and made the little dress too for my lovely sister in-law who is having a baby girl in May! I am so excited that I will get to make some girly things... Woo Hoo! :)
I also colaberated with my wonderful mother in-law Norma to make this gorgeous little pouch for a dear friend of hers for Christmas, who loves all things Paris/french and she apparently absolutely loved it. The gorgeous image on the pouch is from The Graphics Fairy.
I'm slowly getting back into it all this week! It was great to have a little break but now I am looking forward to getting creative.... I have SO much I want to do :)

my creative space: softies for mirabel
It's been another crazy week of creating here! So many things I wanted to share today but the most important project I completed this week is the softie I made for the wonderful charity "Softies for Mirabel" which is organised Pip from Meet me at Mikes... this is it's sixth year! :)
I managed to spend an evening devoted (and some of the next day) to making a sweet little penguin softie! I used the penguin "Arnold" pattern from wonderful book "Hop Skip Jump" by Fiona Dalton. I've been wanting to make sweet little Arnold for ages and this was the perfect opportunity!
I used fine green cord for his body and my feather arrow print for his belly and under wings.
I decided that he HAD to have silver boots and beak so I screen printed some silver fabric... I love that I can screen print fabric I don't have!
The pattern was really easy to follow and came together quickly! Once I had completed him, rather late in the evening, I decided that he needed a red and white crocheted beanie to keep his little head warm!
I am so thrilled with how he turned out! He got the stamp of approval from my little man... he wants one too! :)
