Sea Monkeys

The kids and I spent the day with my aunt Musa and uncle Jack. Because they aren't from SLC they wanted to do the touristy things. They scheduled a bus tour to the Great Salt Lake. Anyone from SLC would have the same reaction that Matt & I did, I'm sure. Eeww, yuck, gullible tourists. Well, I wanted to spend time with them so I figured what the heck. Matt has never been the Great Salt Lake before... too bad he had to work today.

The best part of the trip was the brine shrimp the tour guide fished out of the Lake for us. Adriene got to keep them. They are fascinating! They look like a tiny stick with feathers was one person's description. When Cooper heard that brine shrimp can be called Sea Monkeys he wouldn't let anyone call them brine shrimp. "They are sea monkeys!" was Cooper's cry. We have a little water bottle with about 10 of them in it now. Unfortunately we don't have any algae to feed them so we'll just have to feed them to the fish at Grandy's house tomorrow. The kids are surprisingly OK with that plan.

When we got back to the hotel we ran into Michelle! It was a great surprise. The kids and I went up to Michelle's room for a while and got to hang out with her and her roommate. It was really nice to spend some time with her. Makes me feel old though when my cousin's daughter is 20!

Go Air Force!

My cousin's daughter (what would that be called?) was in town playing v-ball for the Air Force Academy. Her grandparents (my aunt & uncle) drove to town from Portland to see her play and have a little visit. Mom & Gus came over and we had a wonderful dinner then all went to the game of course Michelle was too busy to come. We did get to see her for a few minutes after the game though at least.

I was experimenting with my camera and have realized I have no idea how to take indoor action shots with it. Oh well. The game was a complete rout. Apparently Air Force is not the best team in v-ball. Utah totally kicked their butts. I was certainly conflicted at times. It was fun to see my cute cousin being a strong tough athlete!

Cooper was brave enough to help welcome the home team and got to cheer with the cheerleaders...Adriene got too scared. Cooper got a little v-ball for doing it. Adriene after the fact had to think twice about wimping out on something like that. Grandy caught a shirt later in the game which we decided would be for Adriene... but it's more mom's size. At least she got something.
