The Virtue of Guarding Your Eyes and Your Soul [Links added]

The virtue of guarding your eyes (and your soul) The web. Apps. Texts. Videos. Games. A virtual world. Do you own it or does it "own" you? Do you use it for good or does it "use" you for bad? In this Internet age, there are images that will stay with you and can create bad habits. But God created us to have relationship with Him and with real people, not to live in fantasyland. Media addictions are real, and we're seeing it among young people and older adults too. Addictions to cell phones, web, social networking, games, TV, videos -- it's like drugs and false relationships, replacing reality with fantasy, substituting lies for truth. What you feed on visually will go right to your soul.

- Randy Thomassen of SaveCalifornia.com

"The lamp of the body is the eye. Therefore, when your eye is good, your whole body also is full of light. But when your eye is bad, your body also is full of darkness. Therefore take heed that the light which is in you is not darkness. If then your whole body is full of light, having no part dark, the whole body will be full of light, as when the bright shining of a lamp gives you light."

Jesus Christ in Luke 11:34-36

*******

Randy's advice is good to consider as we enter into another new year.   Media addictions are real and dangerous to our eyes and our souls.  However, if we use such media with the wisdom and knowledge of God via the Scriptures, they can be a great tool for advancing Christian principles to millions.  It really depends on what you are actually doing with your blog, social networking page, website and forum.  Is what you are doing being used just for entertainment?  Is what you are doing being used for sinful or dark reasons?  Is what you are doing ending up to be just useless blather?  Or are you using it to be a "bright shining of a lamp [that] gives you light?"

I think that too many people are, unfortunately,  living in fantasyland - and this may be one reason why some Americans re-elected a Marxist/Islamo-fascist tyrannical wannabe dictator for another four years. The other reasons have been covered here in former blog posts which include the awful combination of rampant voter fraud and the gimme-dat generation that thinks past failed efforts of redistribution of wealth and a government cradle-to-grave socialism mentality via entitlements is better than freedom, liberty, justice, and the free enterprise system of capitalism (not the crony-capitalism that BHO and his ilk use).   What they don't see (yet!) is the ultimate result that happens.  What the government gives it can take away.  This includes taking away your religious and speech freedoms, your liberty, your financial freedoms, your Second Amendment freedoms, and the justice that our Founding Fathers intended for our Constitutional Republic.

Patriots, who saw the corruption are utterly astounded and horrified!

Did you ever think that you would hear of a U.S. Constitutional "law" professor coming on television saying that our U.S. Constitution should be scrapped??  But don't take my word for it, view the interview yourself.   The video at the following link is even better because Megyn Kelly grills NY Times Op-Ed Author Writing That U.S. Should Give Up On Our Constitution.

Like many of my friends, relatives, acquaintances and Internet blogging friends, I think that the next four years under BHO and his nefarious handlers will be horrible for America. This is one of the reasons why I have chosen not only to continue sharing the joys of living in Christ here at this blog - but also, I will continue to serve as a beacon of warning for all who would come here to read my posts regarding what is REALLY happening here in America and across the world that the Badministration rules of lawlessness covers up via what the media of mass corruption out there in fantasyland purposely neglects to report.   Such deception hiding corruption is a kind of propaganda that uninformed people slurp up to their own detriment, and the detriment of all Americans.

I want to thank my sidebar link writers for all that they have provided in the effort to expose all the lies, election fraud, corruption, anti-Christian, anti-American, anti-Capitalism, anti-Israel, pro-Muslim Brotherhood (a terrorist organization, mind you!), deception, perverseness, sin and evil that is, and has been,  running rampant in this terrible government.   Nice Deb writes that we will have a tough road ahead but we must not give up! We still need to fight for what is right, true, virtuous, lovely, pure, and God honoring!

Paul instructs us:

Phl 4:8   Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things [are] noble, whatever things [are] just, whatever things [are] pure, whatever things [are] lovely, whatever things [are] of good report, if [there is] any virtue and if [there is] anything praiseworthy--meditate on these things.

Phl 4:9   The things which you learned and received and heard and saw in me, these do, and the God of peace will be with you.

Notice that Paul informs us that we are to "meditate on these things" and in the next verse says, "these do."

The result?  "And the God of peace will be with you."

Being Salt and Light in the World

Chapter five - When Morality Would Be in Free Fall - from Dr. David Jeremiah's book I Never Thought I'd See The Day: Culture at the Crossroads shares some insight on what it means for Christians to be salt and light in the world.

Excerpt:

[Following] God's moral standards is the only way to be strength and light in the world. It is different in that we don't try to follow the law to attain righteousness in God's sight, as Israel did. Instead, through our faith in Christ we are credited with His righteousness because He kept the law perfectly in our place. We now receive the law of God written on our minds and in our hearts. As Paul wrote, we do not nullify the law as Christians; rather, we uphold it (Romans 3:31). We do not keep the law to become the people of God but to manifest our relationship with God and to be salt and light in the world.

What does it mean to be salt and light in the world? Salt is strong because it overcomes bacteria that would cause food to rot and decompose. It is unique in that it adds flavor to food and creates thirst in those who consume it. We are to do the same. As we keep God's law and manifest His character, we preserve the character of His creation; we prevent the deterioration and degeneration of human society and we add a unique flavor to it. We hope to create a thirst for God in those whose lives we touch.

The role of light is obvious - to bring truth into spiritually dark places. And what truth are we to bring? To "love the LORD your God with all your hear, with all your soul, and with all your mind," and to "love our neighbor as yourself" (Matthew 22:37, 39). Think how different the world would be if those two summary laws, on which "hang all the Law and the Prophets" (v.40), were kept by all the human race! And think how much more powerful and effective the Church of Jesus Christ would be if Christians were not bending God's rules to satisfy themselves.

Christians who decide to adjust their moral stance to align more favorably with that of the world would do well to remember Jesus' words at the beginning of the Sermon on the Mount:

Do not think that I came to destroy the Law or the Prophets. I did not come to destroy but to fulfill. For assuredly, I say to you, till heaven and earth pass away, one jot or one tittle will by no means pass from the law till all is fulfilled. whoever therefore breaks one of the least of these commandments, and teaches men so, shall be called least in the kingdom of heave; but whoever does and teaches them, he shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven. for I say to you, that unless your righteousness exceeds to righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, you will by no means enter the kingdom of heaven. (Matthew 5:17-20).

The Pharisees' moral standard was external. They carefully tithed in great detail, even down to giving a percentage of their herbs, while at the same time neglecting "the weightier matters of the law: justice and mercy and faith" (Matthew 23:23). They kept the letter of the law but ignored the spirit of it. They kept their hands clean but failed to cleanse their hearts (Matthew 23:27). They were guilty of the same thing for which their forefathers were condemned: honoring god with their lips while their hearts were far from Him (Isaiah 29:13).

The warning to today's church is this: Going through the motions of morality is not the morality God desires. Clean hands do not make a clean heart. but the opposite is true: Moral hearts will make moral hands. If we commit to keeping the spirit of the law, the letter of the law will, by default, be kept as well. and that is precisely the message Jesus delivered on that mountainside in Galilee.

Morally and Spiritually Speaking

If you haven't bookmarked Bill Muehlenberg's Culture Watch blog on your blogroll, then you are certainly missing many excellent Christian, Bible-based essays and commentary on issues of the day. His latest essay, Living in Sodom certainly applies to California, in particular, since one rogue openly homosexual judge overturned the will of 7 million voters who voted to keep marriage defined as the union of one man and one woman. It also applies to America, as a whole because the ongoing battle between the states (where millions of voters in dozens of states have written into their state constitutions that marriage is the union of one man and one woman) and the liberal-leftist progressive "judges" who create - by judicial fiat - the made-up "right" for homosexuals to change that definition. Marriage precedes earthly government opinion simply because it was originally given by God in His Word - the Bible. Therefore, this is much more than just a political or legal battle - it is also a spiritual battle.

Here is an excerpt from Bill's essay:

Let’s face it folks: Morally and spiritually speaking, Australia – or America, or England, etc – is now on a par with ancient Sodom and Gomorrah. These two wicked cities, along with three others, were destroyed by a righteous and holy God who finally had enough of their filth, perversion and ungodliness.

But it is hard to see how Australia or any other Western nation can be said to be much better today. Indeed, in many respects we are much worse. As proof, one only needs to read some the articles on this site, documenting the daily descent into the pit.

The West is going down the tubes fast, and the levels of iniquity and unrighteousness seem almost incomparable to past evil. A quick look at some of my pieces under the ‘Culture Wars’ section, or the ‘Political Correctness’ section should make clear the moral and spiritual free fall we are now in.

And we are far more responsible and guilty than were Sodom and Gomorrah. As Leonard Ravenhill reminds us, “Sodom had no Bible”. If Sodom was ripe for judgment without special revelation, how much more are we with it?

What a great question!

My comment there, still in moderation because it's 3:00 a.m. in Australia:

Bill,

Your essay is filled with much truth. It could also apply to America, as well as Australia. Our nations are going through the same types of chaos and lack of respect for God and His Word. The days are certainly evil.

When I feel myself getting down because “the days are evil,” I pick up my study guide called “Revealing The Mysteries of Heaven” by Dr. David Jeremiah. It is a great little book – thoroughly Bible-based, too. It gives me comfort during times of fear, doubt, worry and turmoil.

My son has the following Bible verse on his Facebook page today:

He must hold firmly to the trustworthy message as it has been taught, so that he can encourage others by sound doctrine and refute those who oppose it.
Titus 1:9

That describes our work today. This is what you, Bill, are doing via this wonderful blog and on Facebook. I can only imagine Jesus looking at your heart and saying, “well done, good and faithful servant.”

I continue to learn a lot from you, my Christian brother! And I am so grateful that I found your blog “for such a time as this.” God bless you and keep up the great work!

In Christ,
Christine

We need to live lives in righteousness and holiness, and teach others to do so as well, and help others to find Christ.

Fight For What's Right

I can't decide which of the following articles alarms me, and saddens me more. I will let readers make their own evaluations and decision.

Canadian Doctors Group Worried Palin Example Will Lower Down's Abortion Rate

Does Focus on the Family Really Hate Gay People?

[Please read above article in conjunction with the following one.]

Homosexual U.K. Documentarian Says Gay Lifestyle a "Sewer" of Casual Degrading Sex, Drug Abuse and Misery

I now have a hypothetical statement and questions to present.

Contrary to popular belief (which is usually never scientific anyway), there is no such thing as a "gay gene." Now, when one considers each of these articles, let's examine what might happen in the abortion industry if a "gay gene" were ever found.

Do you think that those Canadian physicians would be quick to change their minds regarding aborting children for that particular genetic disposition?

If all pre-disposed "gay babies" where aborted in the womb, would Focus on the Family's "Love Won Out" program eventually die out too?

Reading about the misery of those caught up in the homosexual lifestyle in the U.K., would it be more merciful to abort babies who might be deemed with homosexual tendencies?

One last article to share.

Post-abortion grief very real, experts say
Psychologists refute claim terminating life doesn't emotionally scar men, women

Christians, we need to NEVER give up the fight for what's right - no matter what those who oppose us think or do!

Morning

I have seen his ways, and will heal him.

I [am] the LORD that healeth thee.--O LORD, thou hast searched me, and known [me]. Thou knowest my downsitting and mine uprising, thou understandest my thought afar off. Thou compassest my path and my lying down, and art acquainted [with] all my ways.--Thou hast set our iniquities before thee, our secret [sins] in the light of thy countenance.--All things [are] naked and opened unto the eyes of him with whom we have to do.

Come now, and let us reason together, saith the LORD: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool.--He is gracious unto him, and saith, Deliver him from going down to the pit: I have found a ransom.--He [was] wounded for our transgressions, [he was] bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace [was] upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.--He hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted.--Thy faith hath made thee whole; go in peace, and be whole of thy plague.

Evening

The LORD taketh my part.

The LORD hear thee in the day of trouble; the name of the God of Jacob defend thee; send thee help from the sanctuary, and strengthen thee out of Zion. . . .We will rejoice in thy salvation, and in the name of our God we will set up [our] banners: the LORD fulfil all thy petitions. . . . Some [trust] in chariots, and some in horses: but we will remember the name of the LORD our God.
They are brought down and fallen: but we are risen, and stand upright.

When the enemy shall come in like a flood, the Spirit of the LORD shall lift up a standard against him.--There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God [is] faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear [it].

If God [be] for us, who [can be] against us?--The LORD [is] on my side; I will not fear.

Our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace, and he will deliver [us].

CA Marriage Amendment on Ballot!

Great news! The California Marriage Amendment will be on the ballot in November!

Five months and 1.1 million signatures later, the California marriage amendment is headed to the November ballot.

Ron Prentice, executive director of the California Family Council, said he was "thrilled."

"The fact that we will turn in 1.1 million signatures is unprecedented, coming from the grassroots and the churches of this state," he said. "We know that the road ahead will be especially quarrelsome, but we look for Christians to stand up, to represent biblical truth and God's will for marriage."

The amendment to the state constitution would protect marriage from the courts and the Legislature. The state Supreme Court is scheduled to rule by early June on a series of lawsuits challenging the state's existing one-man, one-woman marriage laws. The Legislature has passed back-to-back same-sex "marriage" bills, both of which were vetoed by the governor.

"This shouldn't be something left to the court either now or in the future," Brian Brown, executive director of the California office of the National Organization for Marriage, told The Associated Press. "The idea that California voters should be the ones to decide this is an idea that resonates with people."

Truth About Tolerance (Part 1)

Leftist secular liberalism has twisted the right and responsible apprehension and application of true tolerance. The type of tolerance that is being inflicted upon America today is, unfortunately, a one-way street. I would even label it as a "one-say street" of dialogue. Step out of line from liberalism's view of "tolerance" and you are unfairly labeled with derogatory words that certainly reveal the Lefts intolerance toward traditional moral convictions. This is especially true when such convictions are grounded in religious viewpoints. Such viewpoints are, ironically, imperiled by what passes for tolerance today.

If you really want to see how abused and misunderstood the concept of tolerance is today, then I recommend reading The Truth About Tolerance: Pluralism, Diversity and the Culture Wars, by Brad Stetson and Joseph G. Conti.

The book goes into much detail in what the authors call the "flash points in the development of tolerance." Through part one of the book, we learn the essential points, ideas and events that have significantly contributed to the development of tolerance as it has evolved in Western society. Next, the book goes on to describe an ensemble of principles, habits, laws and institutions that advance true toleration, a virtue essential to any just and free society.

The current culture's misuse of tolerance is absolutely mind boggling and astounding! When one examines the true meaning of tolerance, and how it has been hijacked by the secular left in America, we then can see so clearly how our current "clash of cultural difference" has come about and why the dangerous direction that such softheadedness (a title given by J. Budziszewski in his book "The Revenge of Conscience") that people profess as "tolerance" is not really genuine tolerance at all. In fact, it is much more like tyranny due to its own excess of licientiousness and deficit of morality. This will be explained in much more detail in Part 2 of this topic.

The quote by Leo Strauss in the preface of the book summarizes, quite well in fact, the clash going on in America today due to the misuse of the term "tolerance":

Absolute tolerance is altogether impossible; the allegedly absolute tolerance turns into ferocious hatred of those who have stated clearly and most forcefully that there are unchangeable standards founded on the nature of man and the nature of things. - Leo Strauss

I have known for quite some time now that I am certainly not alone in my thinking that something is very wrong with the way many Americans think about tolerance. I have found, numerous times on this blog, that people can't even agree on what the true definition of tolerance really is. What exactly does it mean?

The book points out, and asks, these questions:

1. Does tolerance require the acceptance of all views on a given subject as equally true?

2. Does it mean that I must not believe too strongly that my views are right about a given subject?

3. Can I be tolerant and still believe in objective truth about religion, ethics and politics?

Such questions lead us towards other topics, such as the nature of truth, the nature of human beings and the possibility of moral knowledge.

I appreciate the fact that the book approaches this topic in the worldview context of evangelical Christianity. It presents an overview of the intersection of truth and tolerance in American social life today.

In a previous post, I mentioned this book and shared a quote which expresses that the "new tolerance" is an impostor (a.k.a. "pseudo-tolerance).

R. Douglas Geivett, Professor of Philosophy, Biola University writes:

"We aren't as tolerant as we think we are - and genuine tolerance will emerge only when we no longer tolerate our many forms of pseudo-tolerance. Stetson and Conti demonstrate the need for a new culture of tolerance, where virtue governs our disagreements about the things that matter most. They've produced an astute commentary on contemporary culture, a rousing admonition to witness to truth with humility and respect, and an inspiring set of principles to guide the way."

Between Two Worlds sums it up this way:

Stetson and Conti critique both soft-headed hyper tolerance (tolerating what ought not be tolerated) and narrow-minded intolerance (failing to be tolerant when we should). Instead, they argue for critical tolerance (which returns to the historic, classical understanding of the concept which contains two poles: both allowance and critique).

The list of ten truths of tolerance are:

1. Tolerance, rightly understood, is a patience toward a practice or opinion one disapproves of.

2. The practice of tolerance must have limits.

3. Tolerance allows for prudent moral criticism and strongly held individual belief.

4. There are important distinctions to be made within the concept of intolerance and between the concepts of intolerance and non tolerance.

5. Tolerance is a moral tool that allows for the construction and maintenance of civic order.

6. Tolerance is rightly applied only to people’s conduct and expressions of opinion.

7. Tolerance is inconsistent with philosophical indifference.

8. Tolerance is consistent with a strong confidence in the truthfulness of one’s own beliefs and experience.

9. Since tolerance is inevitably connected with disagreement and moral evaluation, it helpfully compels us toward a philosophical confrontation with competing and irreconcilable perspectives about the good.

10. We should always be conscious of the various contexts in which tolerance is exercised.

That list, alone, gives us instruction that shows how the meaning of tolerance has been so drastically skewed by the liberal left in this country!

The study of tolerance needs to be prefaced by a discussion about truth. Chapter five of the book can does just that and can be read here: The Truth About Truth (chapter 5).

In Part 2, it will be my goal to go into more descriptive detail on some of the "Ten Truths about Tolerance" (listed above).

Perhaps readers would like to cite their own experiences and examples pertaining to each point. Please feel free to do so in the comment section.

Man Worshiping His "own maker"

Craig Chamberlin, over at his blog My Wise Generation, has shared a creed which was written in the 1980's by a man named Steve Turner. Read it and be amazed at the accuracy of that generations' self-fulfilling prophecy of the self-defeating mechanism and consequences known as moral relativism!!

"This is the creed I have written on behalf of all [of] us.

We believe in Marxfreudanddarwin
We believe everything is OK
as long as you don't hurt anyone,
to the best of your definition of hurt,
and to the best of your knowledge.

We believe in sex before, during, and after marriage.
We believe in the therapy of sin.
We believe that adultery is fun.
We believe that sodomy is OK.
We believe that taboos are taboo.

We believe that everything is getting better
despite evidence to the contrary.
The evidence must be investigated
And you can prove anything with evidence.

We believe there's something in
horoscopes, UFO's and bent spoons;
Jesus was a good man
just like Buddha, Mohammed, and ourselves.
He was a good moral teacher
although we think His good morals were bad.

We believe that all religions are basically the same--
at least the one that we read was.
They all believe in love and goodness.
They only differ on matters of
creation, sin, heaven, hell, God, and salvation.

We believe that after death comes the Nothing
Because when you ask the dead what happens they say nothing.
If death is not the end, if the dead have lied,
then it's compulsory heaven for all
excepting perhaps Hitler, Stalin, and Genghis Khan.

We believe in Masters and Johnson.
What's selected is average.
What's average is normal.
What's normal is good.

We believe in total disarmament.
We believe there are direct links between warfare and bloodshed.
Americans should beat their guns into tractors
and the Russians would be sure to follow.

We believe that man is essentially good.
It's only his behavior that lets him down.
This is the fault of society.
Society is the fault of conditions.
Conditions are the fault of society.

We believe that each man must find the truth that is right for him.
Reality will adapt accordingly.
The universe will readjust.
History will alter.
We believe that there is no absolute truth
excepting the truth that there is no absolute truth.

We believe in the rejection of creeds,
and the flowering of individual thought.

"Chance" a post-script

If chance be the Father of all flesh,
disaster is his rainbow in the sky,
and when you hear

State of Emergency!
Sniper Kills Ten!
Troops on Rampage!
Whites go Looting!
Bomb Blasts School!

It is but the sound of man worshiping his maker."

- Steve Turner, Creed, 1980

Moral Responsibility?

The Christian Post has an article about a study where people shared their opinions regarding Behaviors Americans Consider 'Sinful'.

Excerpt:

Americans overwhelmingly believe in the concept of sin whether they are religiously involved or not, according to a new Ellison Research study released Tuesday.

“Sin,” as defined by the research organization, is “something that is almost always considered wrong, particularly from a religious or moral perspective.” The study questioned more than 1,000 American adult respondents whether they believe in such a thing as “sin” and then asked them whether 30 different behaviors were sinful.

Out the list of 30 behaviors, adultery was most often described as a sinful behavior by American respondents (81 percent).

Following adultery was racism (74 percent); using “hard” drugs such as cocaine, heroine, meth, LSD, etc. (65 percent); not saying anything if a cashier gives you too much change (63 percent); abortion (56 percent); and homosexual activity or sex (52 percent) rounded out the top five behaviors most often considered sinful by Americans.

Other behaviors with significant moral objections included reading or watching pornography (50 percent); swearing (46 percent); sex before marriage (45 percent); harming the environment as a consumer (41 percent); smoking marijuana (41 percent); getting drunk (41 percent); and not taking proper care of your body (35 percent).

Not surprisingly, religious people are much more likely to believe in sin, with 94 percent of Americans who regularly attend religious worship services saying they believe in the concept of sin. The number drops to 80 percent among those who do not attend service, although the percentage is still a large majority.

But perhaps more surprising is the differences in the belief of sin between political divides. Political conservatives (94 percent) believe there is such a thing as sin. The number remains high among moderates (89 percent) but then drops to 77 percent among political liberals.

The latest scandal involving N.Y. Governor (soon to be former Governor) Eliot Spitzer is a prime example of the "77 percent among political liberals" category. Despite being the lowest percentage number in the stats, even that amount sounds too high based on what we see as the lack of moral responsibility among the liberal crowd!

I listened to Spitzer's resignation speech yesterday. Although he mentioned his need to "atone" with his wife, children, and the rest of his family, I didn't hear him mention anything about God. Of course, I don't know the man, so I can only go by what I have read about him. But when he stated that "I am deeply sorry that I did not live up to what was expected of me," there was something sorely missing. There was no mention of being repentant for the pain and suffering he has inflicted upon not only the people he loves the most, but also the people whom he was supposed to be serving as governor. There wasn't any sense of asking for forgiveness. Did anyone else notice that?

AnkleBitingPundits noticed it. They thought that the speech was arrogant and "all about him." [Warning: some comments at the site are offensive.]

That may sound a bit harsh, but when you couple his lack of remorse, and lack of asking for forgiveness with the following statement, what does this reveal about the man?

I go forward with the belief, as others have said, that as human beings, our great glory consists not in never falling, but in rising every time we fall.

Our "great glory" as human beings?? As a Christian, I am of the belief that all glory and honor belongs to God alone!

It appears to me that the man is just sorry that he got caught!

The fact that Spitzer was highly involved in prosecuting others for being involved with prostitution rings, and then actively (and shamefully!) participating in one himself is the height of hypocrisy! He spent $80,000.00 on prostitutes for his own lust-filled sexual gratification!

I feel so bad for his wife and children.

This morning, I was visiting a blog that I discovered via the Digg fan/friend system. A young man by the name of Craig Chamberlin has been writing several blog posts at My Wise Generation about how different philosophers, in the past, had warned that ethics would become obsolete and moral relativism would, unfortunately, lead the way.

Excerpts:

“Ours is an age where ethics has become obsolete. It is superseded by science, deleted by philosophy and dismissed as emotive by psychology. It is drowned in compassion, evaporates into aesthetics and retreats before relativism. The usual moral distinctions between good and bad are simply drowned in a maudlin emotion in which we feel more sympathy for the murderer than for the murdered, for the adulterer than for the betrayed, and in which we have actually begun to believe that the real guilty party, the one who somehow caused it all, is the victim, and not the perpetrator of the crime.”

- Robert Fitch, Christianity and Crisis: A Journal of Opinion, 1959

Doesn't that describe today's culture?

I don't want to get too far off topic, but I will mention two things.

1. Abortion on demand and embryonic stem cell research are two glaringly obvious examples of where ethics are superseded by science, deleted by philosophy, and dismissed as emotive by psychology.

No one does anything wrong anymore! In fact, it is those who oppose abortion and embryonic stem cell research (which destroys a living embryo that had the opportunity to be a human being)that are demonized by the pro-aborts and liberals who want us to believe "it's just a blob of cells."

2. Our nation was the victim of the horrible terrorist attack on 9/11/01. Yet, today, we have insane conspiracy theorists who want to place the blame on America for being so brutally attacked! Can you imagine if such a mentality was alive back in history when Pearl Harbor was attacked by the Japanese?

Craig discussed the fact that way back in 1909, philosopher G.K. Chesterton warned that relative morality is counter-productive.

Excerpt:

The following is a vivid picture painted by the famous writer, poet and philosopher G.K. Chesterton. In it, he paints a portrait of the modern skeptic of his time who refuses to believe in an objective morality. There is much truth to be said even today about his words as our societies continue to embrace a relative philosophy of right and wrong.

"But the new rebel is a skeptic, and will not entirely trust anything. He has no loyalty; therefore he can never be really a revolutionist. And the fact that he doubts everything really gets in his way when he wants to denounce anything. For all denunciation implies a moral doctrine of some kind; and the modern revolutionist doubts not only the institution he denounces, but the doctrine by which he denounces it.

Craig insightfully adds:

It is amazing that even a decade later these ideas ring true. As individuals continue to argue that all of right and wrong are relative to perception, one sees the walls of right and wrong crumbling in America as every culture steers and fights for their own personal perceptions of right and wrong. We have forgotten that truth is objective, not relative, and that we need to use the wisdom of God while loving our neighbors as we love ourselves to drive our decisions.

Chapter Six in Lee Strobel's book, "The Case for the Real Jesus" has a section subtitled, "Whatever became of sin?"

Strobel and Paul Copan discuss that today, we live in a "blame-shifting culture." The psychology being promoted consists of the "it's not your fault" mentality which leads to human beings not taking responsibility for their behaviors and actions.

Strobel then asks Copan, "If there is no such thing as sin anymore, then people wouldn't need a savior like the Jesus of the Bible, would they?"

Excerpt:

"One of the problems of relativism is that it denies there's any moral standard to shoot for," he replied. "Consequently, there's no failure in meeting that standard --so why, as you've asked, would you need a savior? Why do you need to be rescued? Why do you need redemption?

"But despite a lot of our therapeutic attempts to deal with human nature, the problem of evil in the human heart is something that keeps making realists of us. G.K. Chesterton talked about sin as being a fact as practical as potatoes. He said the doctrine of original sin is the only Christian doctrine that can be empirically verified --just look at the evening news on any given day. The Christian faith talks about human sinfulness and rebellion against God, which we readily see demonstrated throughout the world.

"If you take the therapeutic approach, then you're going to treat the killings at Columbine or the 9/11 terror attacks as being perpetrated by those who are aberrations. The killers failed to reach their full potential, which is why they were prompted to commit these atrocities. Some Eastern philosophies might say the problem is ignorance."

Copan shook his head. "Well, those are such hollow explanations for the depths of evil that exists around us," he said. "To simply gloss over these evil acts by using psychological categories is utterly inadequate to account for them. A better explanation is sin, which is being preoccupied with ourselves and doing things the way we want rather than as God wants, which produces destructive results.

I recall Pastor Miles stating that sin always has negative consequences. Someone will be hurt, or even die, as a result of it. The adage, "what you don't know can't hurt you" isn't true. Why? Because God knows. And, the Bible states that "your sin will be found out."

Num 32:23 But if ye will not do so, behold, ye have sinned against the LORD: and be sure your sin will find you out.

Copan goes on in the chapter and discusses that "until we bring sin back into our vocabulary, we're not going to take the depths of evil or our moral responsibilities - or God - seriously." He states, "we need to acknowledge our own guilt and humble ourselves in asking for forgiveness."

We need outside assistance to bridge the gap between Holy and Righteous God and our sinful selves. As Copan states, "we cannot paper over it."

We don't need therapy, we need the Great Physician - Jesus Christ - for only He can bring forgiveness to us when we repent of our sins. Only Jesus can bring healing. Only the Holy Spirit can assist us to live in holiness and righteousness - something that we cannot possibly do on our own.

Strobel asks:

"What's the biblical definition of sin?"

"The Westminster Confession talks about sin being the lack of conformity to, or any kind of transgression of, the law of God. Basically, it's a violation of the character of God. It's something that falls short of what God desires for us. I guess if you want to put it in contemporary jargon, sin is doing what you want. Sin is having attitudes that are self-absorbed and self-centered, rather than being God-centered."

The doctrine of original sin has a lot of explanatory power, but the fact that we are born with a self-centered tendency is not the whole story. There's also the story of redemption - that Christ has come to bring relief and resolution to a problem that, when left to ourselves, we simply aren't' able to address."

Love, Responsibility, Holiness = Wholeness

One of our new commenters here at Talkwisdom has made some claims and asks some very important questions regarding the current rift between gay christian movement (gcma) advocates and traditional Bible-believing Christian advocates (tBbCa). I decided to bring the comments over here in a new blogpost in the hope that some will join in with the conversation. Please feel free to comment on anything and everything stated by either David or I. Also, if you have a weblog commentary or article link that answers any of the questions asked or addresses any of the comments shared, please include the link in your comments.

[Reminder for those who have had difficulty creating word links: < href = " http : // talkwisdom .blogspot .com / ">Talkwisdom < / a> ] Just take out all of the spaces (except for one space between the a and the href) and your link will appear like this: Talkwisdom ]

David brought up some of the usual arguments that gcma use. The dietary civil prohibitions against eating shellfish being equal to the admonitions regarding the moral laws has been answered many times at this blog. However, whenever a new person comes on the scene, it is usually one of the first points brought up. Why is that? I think it has more to do with the propaganda-like training given by leaders of the gcm than personal Bible study.

I just noticed something. The word "propaganda" has the word "pagan" smack dab in the middle of it! Hmmmm......

Anyway, back to the post.

The following is the exchange that commenter David and I have had so far in the gay christian camp? thread.

David said...
Somehow I stumbled upon your blog today. I don't remember how. I don't know if you will keep this posted on your blog, but here it goes.

I am a Christian. I accepted Christ as my personal Saviour at a very young age. I am also a gay man. I never told anyone growing up because of my fear of rejection and the fear of what the church would say to me. I have known that I was gay ever since I was very young. It was not a choice. I did not wake up one day and say, "oh, I think I want to be gay today." As far back as I can remember (which is about 1st grade) I knew that I liked other men and not women. I currently work with gay and lesbian youth and aid them in their struggle between religion and homosexuality.

It really amazes me that you can sit and comment on a film you saw on LOGO, when by your own admission, you could not even take the time to watch the entire thing. I really hope you went back and watched the whole thing. I would also have to assume that the entire camp experience did not take place in 2 hours. This film only gave a glimpse of what actually happened at the camp. Let me tell you what I saw when I watched this film. I saw many youth who were hurting. I saw youth who had been let down by their churches. I saw the church turn their backs on youth because of their sexual orientation. I saw youth who had been told they are going to hell because they are gay. I saw youth who needed a place where they could come and worship God and not be judged for who they are. I saw youth, who without this camp, may have been at a place in their life where they were ready to commit suicide. Because, I can tell you from experience, I have been in that place, and it is by the grace of God that I am still alive today.

I wish I had hours and hours to respond to all the things on your blog, but unfortunately, I have had this conversation with many people and it never seems to help. So, let me just hit on a few of the high points. The "ministries" that are set up to "help" people out of their homosexual behavior are worthless. I have many kids that I have worked with that have gone to these and it drove them deeper into depression, and on the verge of suicide. Even the founder of the Exodus project, which is one of these ministries, finally admitted that the programs don't work and do more harm than good. You said in your blog that you did not want this to sound like gay bashing, which, it doesn't, however, where do you once talk about the fact that the church needs to love homosexuals? Maybe I missed it, and if I did, I apologize.

As far as the Biblical aspect is concerned...again, I don't have hours to spend, but this is what I know. I know what Scripture says about homosexuality. I know that God loves me. I know that the 2 great commandments that were given to us in the New Testament were to love the Lord your God with all your heart, and to love thy neighbor as yourself! I also know that in the Old Testament that Moses did not like homosexuals. And I would agree with you. But he also said that woman should not wear red dresses, and that you should not eat shrimp oysters or lobster, or your steak to rare. And I know that in the New Testament the apostle Paul does not like homosexuals, and I would agree. But the apostle Paul also said that woman should be silent and not speak. A woman should not have authority over a male. What would happen to our society, our school system, our mission fields and our Sunday school classes if we adhered to what Paul told us. Should we allow all of these things to collapse just because Paul was anti woman's lib? By all rights, if we were really adhering to what the Bible says, you should not even be able to post on this blog. Not only that, but Paul did not like guys with long hair, and woman with short hair. The church has conveniently forgotten about all these different things. I am saved by the blood of Jesus Christ and not by the blood of Paul or Moses. Jesus said "come unto me ALL of you that labour and are burdened and I will give you rest!!" There is only one way to Christ, and that is through the blood of Jesus. Jesus is the hope for the world. And I will continue to help those who are homosexual and continue to help them see that Christ loves them just the way they are. I am certainly not here to argue with you, or to be mean in any way. I sincerely hope you have not been offended, and when the day is over, I am sure that we will agree to disagree. May Christ continue to bless you and your family.

Hello David,

Welcome to Talkwisdom and thank you for posting your comments and feelings on this matter.

Yes. We will most likely have to just agree to disagree. For everything that you have said, I could give a countering Scripture verse and/or story. But with your mind made up as it appears to be, you would not be receptive to anything else I would say.

For all of the teens and adults whom you have claimed have been "hurt by ex-gay ministries," I could point to others who have been saved by repentance through faith by the shed blood of Jesus Christ at the cross. In addition to their spiritual salvation, they have also been released from the bondage of homosexual behavior and identity.

I personally know and communicate with four formerly gay/lesbian Christian brothers/sisters and their testimonies are genuine. They have repented (which means confessing and turning away from sin) and now follow Jesus' admonition to live soberly, righteously and godly in this age (which means to please Holy God, not themselves). I do not believe for a second that they are "faking" it.

Perhaps some who claim that ex-gay ministries have "failed" them are doing so because they have only claimed Christ as Savior; but have yet to make Him Lord over their lives.

Each individual's salvation experience is between them and God. I cannot claim to know who is saved and who isn't. That's not my purpose here. What I try to do is proclaim the Word of God as accurately as possible and when I see obvious heresies creeping in, the book of Jude warns us to be on guard and expose such deception.

The claims of the pastor at the camp were not based on God's Word.

Period.

He was creating his own kind of theology to match up with his physical desires. In so doing this, he is also dragging these impressionable teens away from the true gospel of Jesus Christ as well. To me, that is not a good thing. It may be comforting to their "flesh," and what they want to hear (having their ears 'tickled' as the Bible says) but ultimately, this is doing great harm to their souls.

It's a life or death issue. It's that serious! Where they spend eternity is determined according to what Jesus said in John 3:3 - "You must be born again."

Remember what else Jesus said?

"What does it profit a man to gain the whole world (fill in the sin and wordly desire of your choice here) and lose his own soul?"

I'd be very careful about what I preached if I was that homosexual pastor.

Thank you for responding. I was interested in your response and I am sure we could go back and forth and I could counter your scripture also.

I am very happy for your 4 friends. However, I really hope that their "transformation" is real. Just because they have "turned away from the sin" as you put it, it does not necessarily mean they are any less gay. It just means they might not choose to engage in the livestyle. I could make a conscience decesion to be celebate, but that does not make me any less gay, the same as you could remain celebate, but it does not make you any less straight.

I think anyone whether they are a pastor or a lay person should careful about what they preach. Maybe we can agree on one thing. I want to make sure that before I continue conversing with you, that our core theology is the same. Once you have accepted Christ as Saviour, you are one of God's children and once that happens then NO man can take you out of the hand of God. Once you become a Christian, you cannot loose your salvation. Would you agree with me on this point? Because if you do not, then we have another disagreement. Look forward to hearing your opinion.

As you can see, I didn't address every comment, concern or question in David's orginal post. I focused in on what I believe is the irreconcilable schism that exists between gcma and tBbCa. There are probably lots of people who are somewhere "in the middle," on this issue, too.

Where do you, dear reader, stand? What are your thoughts on this issue? What does the Bible say about this dilemma? Why is there confusion on the issue of homosexual behavior and what the Bible clearly says about it? Why is this a fairly new phenomenon that has only developed within the last 30 years or so? Why had Christian Bible scholars from the past never presented any confusion in their commentaries that "a man shall not lie with a man as with a woman; it is an abomination" but today's "new age" gay christian movement advocates claim to know better than Matthew Henry who states:

[III.] A law against unnatural lusts, sodomy and bestiality, sins not to be named nor thought of without the utmost abhorrence imaginable, v. 22, 23. Other sins level men with the beasts, but these sink them much lower. That ever there should have been occasion for the making of these laws, and that since they are published they should ever have been broken, is the perpetual reproach and scandal of human nature; and the giving of men up to these vile affections was frequently the punishment of their idolatries; so the apostle shows, Rom. 1:24.
[Source: Henry, Matthew. "Commentary on Leviticus 18." Matthew Henry Commentary on the Whole Bible. Blue Letter Bible. 01 Mar 1996.

or, David Guzik who states:

[4.] (22) Command against homosexual sex.

You shall not lie with a male as with a woman. It is an abomination.
a. You shall not lie with a male as with a woman: Simply put, God calls homosexual sex an abomination, even as He does in Romans 1:24-32. Additionally, homosexuality was part of the idolatrous perversions which were allowed in Israel at its times of backsliding (1 Kings 14:24, 15:12, and 22:46).

i. Homosexual practice truly is an abomination in our present culture. 43% of homosexuals say that they have had 500 or more sexual partners in their lifetime. Only 1% of homosexuals say they have had four or less sexual partners in their lifetime.

ii. Homosexuals seem to specialize in anonymous sex with no emotional commitment. At one time, London AIDS clinics defined a woman as promiscuous if she’d had more than six partners in her lifetime. They gave up trying to apply a workable definition to male homosexuals when it became clear that they saw almost no homosexual men who had less than six sexual partners a year.

b. It is an abomination: This command is commonly objected to on the grounds that one was born - or created - with homosexual desires. “I was born this way; God made me a homosexual. It is my nature to be homosexual; it would be against my nature to be heterosexual.”

i. The problem is that the Bible says we are all sinners by nature; not a single person is born without an attraction to sin in some way or another. We should not say that God made the homosexual; we could say that Adam did, when he passed on the effects of his rebellion to the entire human race.

ii. Our inborn attraction to sin justifies nothing. The one who practices homosexuality can no more justify himself by saying “I was born this way” than can the person who hates homosexuals justify their ungodly hatred by saying “I was born this way.”

iii. Many justify homosexual practice on the basis of love. They might say, “How can it be wrong to love someone of my own sex? How can love be wrong?” Yet if someone loves their children, it does not justify sexual conduct with them. The issue isn’t love; the issue is of sexual conduct. Of course, the Bible in no way condemns love between people of the same sex, but it does say that sexual conduct between those people is sin.

[Source: Guzik, David. "Study Guide for Leviticus 18." Blue Letter Bible. 7 Jul 2006.

Lastly, Ray Stedman's more recent commentary (1995) is truly awesome because I think it helps reveal, in a conversation-like way, why the compromise being suggested by the gcma may think their movement is all about "love," but in reality, they are rejecting the responsibility of striving for holiness. This is the point that I have been trying to make about why I think that gcma may claim Jesus as their Savior, but haven't yet made Him Lord of their lives.

(Note: There are many other heterosexual sexual sins described in Leviticus. Stedman's commentary isn't only meant for homosexual brokenness, but also the various heterosexual sexual sins recorded in that book. Some people have accused me of focusing too much on homosexuality and what the Bible has to say about it. The reason is this. I don't see any "beastiality christian movements" or "adultery christian movements" or "idolatry christian movements" out there, attempting to swipe away such sins. However, the gcm is adamant about claiming that homosexual sex is not a sin (despite the indisputable fact that the Bible clearly states such acts are sin) and it is this teaching that leads people away from the saving grace and mercy of God because they are advocating clinging to the stronghold of such a sin in their lives. We wouldn't allow such a thing with the sins of murder, theft, idolatry, and adultery etc. now would we??)

So, my answer to those who claim that I, and others who comment at this blog and write blog posts about this topic at their own weblogs, are "too focused on this one subject matter" is that the crux of the matter involves false converts vs. genuine conversion. Through confession, repentance and acceptance of Jesus Christ's sacrifice at the cross of Calvary for our sins, our Lord's propitiation for sin is applied to our souls for forgiveness of sin. In order for the Holy Spirit of God to indwell our hearts and lead us spiritually towards holiness and righteousness, we must invite the Lord Jesus Christ to reside there and allow His leading in our lives. Our part includes love, responsibility, and striving for holiness for the rest of our earthly lives. This is what ultimately leads us towards wholeness, which is, in turn, evidenced by the "fruit of the Spirit." We are admonished to walk as "children of light" and not to go back to the former "darkness" of sin that engulfed and enslaved us, previously. Notice Eph. 5:11 says that we are to "reprove them,", meaning, that when we find heretical dogma creeping in (such as the gay christian camp counselor was doing with those teens on the T.V. show), then we are supposed to speak up against it!

Eph 5:8 ¶ For ye were sometimes darkness, but now [are ye] light in the Lord: walk as children of light:

Eph 5:9 (For the fruit of the Spirit [is] in all goodness and righteousness and truth;)

Eph 5:10 Proving what is acceptable unto the Lord.

Eph 5:11 And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove [them].

Excerpts from Stedman's commentary:

[G]od determines to heal man's brokenness and to make man whole again. And he knows how to do it---he says so: "I have separated you from the peoples." (Lev. 20:24) It is a process of separation. The reason we are so broken is that we are involved in a broken race. Our attitudes are wrong. Our vision of life is twisted and distorted. We believe illusions, take them to be facts, and act upon them. We are following phantoms and fantasies and delusions. So God must separate us. He has to break us loose from conformity to the thought patterns and attitudes and reactions of those around us. He has to deliver us from all that, straighten out our thinking, set our minds and hearts aright, and correct our tangled, fouled relationships.

This is a process which takes infinite patience and love, because it is voluntary---God never forces us into it. It can occur only to those who trust God enough to respond to his love.

and this:

...[r]ead the Psalms and see how much David understood of the presence and the grace of God in his life. He was a man who was healed by God. He came to understand that God was his strength and his very life, and that God could meet every need of his heart and work out all the tangled relationships in his family and in his personal life. All this is reflected in the Psalms he wrote.

Leviticus, then, is full of Christ. All the sacrifices, the rituals, and the ceremonies pictorially describe Jesus Christ and his work, and how he was available to men and women then. And as we read this book from our vantage on this side of the cross, we will learn a great deal about how Jesus Christ can meet our needs now. Therefore, this is not just a historical book. It isn't just for "news." It is a tremendously practical manual on how to live as a Christian.

and this:

[T]his is what the book of Leviticus shows us---the reasons why, the understanding of ourselves. It is designed to meet the hurt of man, just where we are. And as we learn how to accept the healing of God, it will show us what we can be.

and this:

[T]he third element is the revelation of a standard by which we can tell the difference between the true and the false, the phony and the real, the helpful and the hurtful---between death and life. Isn't it strange that man in his natural condition cannot tell the difference? That is why there are thousands and thousands of people who are doing things which they think are helpful but which end up to be very hurtful---and they do not understand why! When the results begin to come in they cry out, "What happened, what has gone wrong? Why am I in a mess like this?" It is because they could not tell the difference. So, a God of love tells us the difference. He sets forth a standard by which we can distinguish between that which is essentially hurtful and that which will actually help us.

and this:

[M]any people, looking at this, say, "Christianity is nothing but a slaughterhouse religion."

Why all this bloodshed? Because, by this means God is trying to impress us with a fundamental fact. He is telling us that the issues of our life run very deep, that they can be solved only by a death, that the basis for wholeness is a life given up, that we will never make it merely on the basis of our natural life. We must somehow discover a new kind of life. And we have to give up the old before we can have the new! That is what he is telling us. We can't have both! The struggle of the Christian life is that we keep trying to hang on to the old way of life and refuse to accept the new. This is what the blood speaks of.

and this:

The last element is an awareness of the issues at stake and their importance; of how our entire life stands in the balance at this very point, and a decision is expected of us. There is a choice that we can make. And God brings us finallyto that very place and helps us to see that in the final analysis it is entirely up to us to choose. God never says, "I'm going to make you leave your misery." Rather, he says, "If you prefer being broken and don't want to be healed, you can stay right where you are. But if you want life, then this is what is ahead." God never forces his will upon us. But he sets the choice before us, makes it very clear, and then expects a response on the basis that he has given.

and this:

[T]hat is what God is really saying to us. He sees our hurt and our heartache and our longing and our brokenness, and he says, "You're MINE!"

But that isn't all. Because of his power and wisdom, God says, with that wonderful hopefulness of a loving father, "You shall be mine---healed, made whole, with all your blemishes and deformities corrected, all your faults straightened out, all your iniquities set aside, all your tangled relationships unsnarled. You shall be whole, for I am whole." That is what this book is about, that is what the Bible is about, and that is what Jesus Christ is about.

and finally, this:

[I] don't know anything more suggestive of this activity for us than the Lord's table. This event tells us of how God, in love, began the process of healing. It portrays for us how he began to reach out to us in the cross, in the suffering of Jesus, and how he broke the power of darkness and began to set us free. Our Lord Jesus gave us this event to teach us the meaning of these ancient sacrifices: a life poured out for us, a life given up in order that we might have a new basis of living, in order that we may be his.

Ray Stedman's prayer for us all:

Prayer

Our heavenly Father, each time we come to the Lord's table, we ask you to make it very rich and meaningful to us. May we, in our mind's eye, see the Lord Jesus as the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world, who has broken through the sin barrier, broken through the fear barrier, and now reaches out to us in tender, forgiving, accepting, understanding love, and who offers us everything it takes to straighten out the tangled relationships of our lives. Lord, help us to understand this and to lay hold of it, to give thanks for it. We know that for many, the healing has begun and is still progressing. For some, it is just beginning. There may be some for whom it has not yet started. We pray that in your love, Lord Jesus, you will reach them and heal them. We ask it in your name, Amen.

Never-Changing Truth

The entirety of Your Word is truth, and every one of Your righteous judgments endures forever.
Psalm 119:160

2 Timothy 3:16-17

People who lie have a problem: trying to remember what they have said to whom, or what version of the truth they last conveyed. It has often been said that the single greatest advantage to telling the truth is that you don't have to remember what you have said: The version of the story you told ten years ago is the same as the version you tell today.

The Bible is the repository of the truth God has delivered to mankind—and it is truth that never changes. The same truth that God delivered to man in the Old Testament is the truth we find in the New Testament. For instance, nine of the Ten Commandments given to Israel are repeated as commands for the church (meeting on the Sabbath being the exception). When it comes to practical and holy living, the same solutions God gave saints of old work in the lives of today's Christian believers. Because God's Word (whether spoken or written) is settled in heaven, we need never wonder what God says about life's most important questions.

When seeking guidance from God in prayer, it does no good to ask if He has changed His mind on a moral question. God's truth is the same yesterday, today, and tomorrow.

Netherlands: Weariness With Moral Squalor

It would seem that liberal licientiousness is not all that it's cracked up to be! Looks like the people of the Netherlands have come to the conclusion that they need to rethink that nation's anything-goes policies.

Article excerpt:

The effort to rein in the Netherlands' famed social liberties is not limited to the small, newly empowered Christian Union party, which holds two of the 16 ministries in the coalition government formed this year. Increasingly, politicians from the more center-left Labor Party are among the most outspoken proponents of closing some brothels and marijuana shops -- known here as "coffee shops."

"Has the Netherlands changed? Yes," said Frank de Wolf, a Labor Party member of the Amsterdam City Council. "There is not only a different mood among our people and politicians, but there are different problems now."

The Netherlands is going through the same racial, ethnic and religious metamorphosis as the rest of Western Europe: Large influxes of black, Arab and Muslim immigrants are changing the social complexion of an overwhelmingly white, Christian nation struggling with its loss of homogeneity.

But here those anxieties are exacerbated by alarm over the international crime organizations that have infiltrated the country's prostitution and drug trades, the increasing prevalence of trafficking in women and children across its borders, and dismay over the Netherlands' image as an international tourist destination for drugs and sexual debauchery.

"There is an uneasiness about globalization that the Dutch don't have control over their own country anymore," said James C. Kennedy, professor of contemporary history at the Free University of Amsterdam. "There is a more conservative mood in the country that is interested in setting limits and making sure things don't get out of hand."

It would seem that God had our best interests at heart right from the start! He knows what is best for us. The pitfalls of sin have devastating effects upon the mind, body, soul, and spirit. Obedience to God's Law helps us avoid the terrible consequences of unrepentant sin and is good for us.

Article excerpt:

"This toleration policy goes back 35 years," said Veling, snapping the lids off plastic boxes of pungent marijuana blends marked Neville's Haze and White Widow. "Now the word 'coffee shop' has become a symbol of something we don't like about society."

But historian Kennedy describes the attitude as a national "weariness with moral squalor -- the Dutch have grown tired of it and unwilling to put up with it."

He said the rise of the orthodox Christian Union party, many members of which shun television as part of their strict religious code, has coincided with the changing public attitude

Obviously, it is going to take a long time to turn things around. After 35 years of unrestricted sex, drugs, prostitution, abortion, same-sex marriage, organized crime networks, criminal gangs, marijuana "coffee shops," and several years of allowing euthanasia, no one can expect an immediate return to morality.

Article excerpt:

"They are chopping away at the edges so that people don't notice," Gomperts said, "resetting the norm of what is accepted practice."

Editor Kranendonk said his Christian Union party is realistic: "When you're a small party, you can't change everything in four years.

At least it's a start. This is good news.

*******

In further news, the battle for liberty and our religious freedoms continues. Note this email I received from the ACLJ:

Dear Christine,

Your life - your liberty - are in a battle ... on multiple fronts. From my vantage point - seeing firsthand what's happening from the courtroom to the congressional cloakroom - I can confirm:

The ACLU, Americans United, People For the American Way, N.O.W., NARAL, Planned Parenthood, the abortion lobby, and others are almost overwhelming in their intensity right now.

The heat is on - and not just because it's summertime. Yet wherever a threat exists, the ACLJ fights back. So your generous online gift today, which can be DOUBLED through our $350,000 BATTLE FOR LIBERTY Matching Challenge, will give the ACLJ strength in its battle against the anti-life, anti-freedom groups that are so determined to take those liberties away.

[Please visit the ACLJ website to donate today. ]

We will not see the American people stripped of their constitutional freedoms, their religious liberties, their time-tested traditional values.

We will not stand by and let extremists continue taking the lives of unborn babies as if they are worthless trash to be discarded.

As you read these words, we are in the midst of a ''Battle for Liberty'' of nationwide scope - unprecedented in its breadth. We're in court and in the halls of Congress reflecting your values and viewpoints in every case:

Summum v. Pleasant Grove - The latest attack on the public display of the Ten Commandments. A group is suing to display their own guidelines (the Seven ''Aphorisms''), and we're already preparing to go to the Supreme Court of the United States if necessary.

Trunk v. City of San Diego - Opponents of the Mt. Soledad war memorial cross refuse to give up. They're relentlessly fighting public expressions of the Christian faith, even after our court victories. We'll file an amicus brief in federal court soon.

McLean Bible Church v. McLane, et al. - We're in federal court because Fairfax County, Va., says a Bible church must become an official college or university in order to hold Bible studies or religious ministry classes in its facilities! It's an obvious, outrageous attempt to squelch churches' proclamation of the Gospel - and an attack on freedom of religion and speech.

We're preparing a federal case in defense of Teen Challenge, one of the world's most successful drug rehab programs. A local Tennessee planning commission has discriminated against this Christian organization by refusing them the use of property already zoned for rehab services!

We're working hard to turn back congressional efforts to pass a so-called ''Freedom of Choice Act,'' which would enshrine Roe v. Wade into law and open the floodgates for abortion.

We're also working on Capitol Hill to turn back attempts by liberals in Congress to advance the abortion lobby's agenda and restrict our religious liberties in other bills in Congress.

Thank you for whatever support God leads you to give today.

American Center for Law and Justice is a d/b/a for Christian Advocates Serving Evangelism, Inc., a tax-exempt, not-for-profit, religious corporation as defined under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code, specifically dedicated to the ideal that religious freedom and freedom of speech are inalienable, God-given rights. The Center's purpose is to educate, promulgate, conciliate, and where necessary, litigate, to ensure that those rights are protected under the law. The organization has participated in numerous cases before the Supreme Court, Federal Court of Appeals, Federal District Courts, and various state courts regarding freedom of religion and freedom of speech. Your gift is very much appreciated and fully deductible as a charitable contribution. A copy of our latest financial report may be obtained by writing to us at P.O. Box 450349, Atlanta, GA 31145-0349.

As always, let us know of threats to freedom in your area by calling (757) 226-2489. And tune in to our daily radio program, "Jay Sekulow Live!"

We can see, in hindsight, what happens when a country such as the Netherlands just lets the moral squalor reign in their midst. Therefore, it is truly a worthy cause to donate to organizations like the ACLJ which work hard in court cases to avoid the downward spiral of licientiousness where the liberal left loonies in this country want to send us. Any readers here who are in a position to give to this important organization, I would encourage you to do just that!

Thanks!
Christine

I Like This New Blog Title

If you are a regular reader here, you may be getting sick and tired of all the blogposts discussing the "gay christian movement" and/or homosexuality. It is just that with so many changes occuring as of late, with two prominent former homosexual activists both declaring freedom from homosexual behavior and identity (with the power of conversion through Jesus Christ), that this topic has caught the wide-spread interest of the blogosphere.

This morning, I found a new blog being linked here written by a person calling him/herself "DC."

The blog has been named No longer accepting the unacceptable

DC's profile simply states:

"I have thought for some time about whether or not I want to jump into the online fray of the homosexual debate and decided that today was the day. Due to the nature of this subject, my family and my job, I am going to use a pen name - you can call me DC."

What does this tell us? It tells us that the homosexual activists are so strong in the workplace, anyone who disagrees with their mantra could be fired if, or when, they speak out!

This is not good for our country, people. It's not good for our families, either. It's definitely not good for our faith in Jesus Christ.

Why?

Because it is a form of tyranny being leveled towards people who believe that homosexual behavior is unhealthy, undesirable for promotion towards our children and grandchildren, and most of all, a sin against the body and God himself. The "tolerance" and "diversity" garbage is actually a ruse that is being used in secular America in order to cause a terrible dictatorship-like atmosphere against Bible-based Christian believers.

At work: Don't agree?

Get disciplined, or even fired!

At home: Speak out against any homosexual activist or 'gay christian' religious group?

You're labeled a bigot. (And, apparently, not welcome to go to their blogs and speak out against their false ideological points, either.)

As an individual person?

If you want to keep the peace and harmony, (as one lesbian christian once told me) then just shut up.

Nice, huh?

Our Society's Need for Holiness

We are to wage war against wickedness. What we tolerate - little by little - eventually becomes accepted practice. When we find a group, organization, individual or government sponsored event that blatantly advertises or encourages filth that undercuts biblical morality in our society and degrades the quality of life in America, we need to speak up against it. We cannot remain silent, people. Silence feigns approval. Approval of sinful ideologies creates a society that is godless. By the grace of God, opposing evil should continue to be a regular effort in the work of each Christian.

Take a look at this article about the pope's condemnation against the EU for not acknowledging it's Christian roots during it's 50th anniversary celebration. He unequivocably states that Society fails without Christian conscience.

Today, on the Glenn Beck T.V. show, Glenn mentioned that what is currently happening in the U.S. is similar to what happened prior to the fall of the Roman Empire. We could apply these words of warning from the pope:

"A society in which the Christian conscience does not live anymore loses direction, does not know anymore where to go, ends up empty and bankrupt," the Pope told parish elders on Sunday.

Such a conscience was needed to promote justice and a sense of responsibility among one another, he said.

Moral bankruptcy. Doesn't that accurately describe our nation today? I think it does.

The pope went on to say:

The Pope made his displeasure over the matter clear in a strongly worded speech on Saturday, saying excluding values that helped forge its very soul meant Europe was committing a form of apostasy -- a total desertion of one's religion -- and doubting its own identity.

Of course, he was referring to Europe here, but couldn't this also apply to America? You bet it can!

Our Democratic-Republic was founded upon Judeo-Christian ethics and values.

The father of our nation, George Washington, reiterated this ideal in his First Inaugural Address, April 30, 1789. Note this portion:

In these honorable qualifications I behold the surest pledges that as on one side no local prejudices or attachments, no separate views nor party animosities, will misdirect the comprehensive and equal eye which ought to watch over this great assemblage of communities and interests, so, on another, that the foundation of our national policy will be laid in the pure and immutable principles of private morality, and the preeminence of free government be exemplified by all the attributes which can win the affections of its citizens and command the respect of the world. I dwell on this prospect with every satisfaction which an ardent love for my country can inspire, since there is no truth more thoroughly established than that there exists in the economy and course of nature an indissoluble union between virtue and happiness; between duty and advantage; between the genuine maxims of an honest and magnanimous policy and the solid rewards of public prosperity and felicity; since we ought to be no less persuaded that the propitious smiles of Heaven can never be expected on a nation that disregards the eternal rules of order and right which Heaven itself has ordained; and since the preservation of the sacred fire of liberty and the destiny of the republican model of government are justly considered, perhaps, as deeply, as finally, staked on the experiment entrusted to the hands of the American people.
(bold and emphasis mine)

What was Washington talking about here? Holiness.

It's the matter of holiness that preserves our nation. These days, it is obviously something that is no longer discussed very often.

As Christians, we are called to be holy:

Rom 6:22 But now having been set free from sin, and having become slaves of God, you have your fruit to holiness, and the end, everlasting life.

1Pe 1:16 Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy.

Just as we must not be ashamed of the Gospel we MUST NOT be ashamed to "pursue holiness without which no man shall see the Lord." And we need to promote it better than we do.

Hbr 12:14 Follow peace with all [men], and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord:

HOLINESS:

"Holiness is the habit of being of one mind with God, according as we find His mind described in Scripture. It is the habit of agreeing in God's judgment - hating what He hates, loving what He loves - and measuring everything in this world by the standard of His Word. He who most entirely agrees with God, he is the most holy man.

He will have a decided bent of mind toward God, a heart desire to do His will, a greater fear of displeasing Him than of displeasing the world, and a love to all His ways.

Washington concluded his inaugural address:

Having thus imparted to you my sentiments as they have been awakened by the occasion which brings us together, I shall take my present leave; but not without resorting once more to the benign Parent of the Human Race in humble supplication that, since He has been pleased to favor the American people with opportunities for deliberating in perfect tranquillity, and dispositions for deciding with unparalleled unanimity on a form of government for the security of their union and the advancement of their happiness, so His divine blessing may be equally conspicuous in the enlarged views, the temperate consultations, and the wise measures on which the success of this Government must depend.

Obamanation Abomination?

This is just too good to pass up. There is so much flap over this incident and the series of events that followed are just...well...quite shocking! But I'll let each of you decide if you want to venture in the disgusting part of the whole scene.

No butts about it, irony can be pretty ironic.

A Chicago radio host who tried to trademark the phrase "It's an Obamanation" in connection with the presidential campaign of Barack Obama has not only been turned down for being "offensive," the federal government mysteriously sent him "disgusting" sexual photos and text as part of its rejection.

"I can't get over it," said Cisco Cotto, co-host of the morning show on WIND-AM. "I don't get it. I almost had to do a double take.

It all started a few months ago when Cotto and his co-host, John Howell, were thinking about ways to raise money for local charities. They noticed national media giving plenty of attention to Sen. Barack Obama, D- Ill., so they brainstormed possible slogans. They finally agreed on "It's an Obamanation," and created a patriotic-looking logo with the word "nation" consisting of an American flag.

"I didn't mean this to be mean toward Obama," Cisco told WND. "If you like Obama, you can use it, or if you don't like Obama, you can use it."

The application was made in the name of Cotto's wife, Anna, and on Feb. 6, the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office sent a notice of refusal "because the proposed mark consists or comprises matter that may disparage or bring into contempt or disrepute Barack Obama. Consumers reasonably would understand that the 'Obama' in 'Obamanation' refers to the disparaged party. A reasonable person of ordinary sensibilities would consider this reference offensive or objectionable."

According to the correspondence, the trademark examining attorney handling the application was Karen K. Bush, who included a dictionary definition of the word "abomination" – a cause of abhorrence or disgust – and number of screenshots of websites as background material to justify her decision.

Strangely though, while Bush rejected the "Obamanation" slogan for being "offensive or objectionable," she also attached a screenshot that absolutely stunned Cotto.

"It is a Wikipedia entry for a pretty disgusting, unorthodox sexual device," said Cotto, struggling to find a way to politely describe what he received. "I was at work, and my jaw dropped open. I literally screamed for my co-workers. They freaked out just as I did."

He says the first thing that crossed his mind was, "Why in the world is this [graphic material] in here?"

Editor's note: WIND Radio has posted the complete federal refusal on its website, with a link to the graphic, sexual screenshot from Wikipedia.com. Viewer discretion is strongly advised, as some of the images and text may be disturbing to readers of all ages.

This is just so bizarre...people!!

I couldn't even bring myself to vote in the poll!
