Move slow and fix things.
I'm an unsponsored PeerTuber/YouTuber making videos about Linux, vintage tech, and owning your digital destiny. I'm also a nerdy musician in a nerdy band with other nerds you might know. I'm not a fan of machine-generated slop - my mistakes are mine and I'm doing just fine.

I genuinely believe that the Fediverse offers the best chance of recapturing the friendly, optimistic Internet I loved as a kid.
We've got flaws, sure. I've been critical of aspects of fedi culture, and will continue to do so.
But this place represents hope, and hope is where we start.

🦁 Camera traps in Spain captured female Iberian lynxes deliberately dunking dead rabbits in water troughs — the first documented case of a wild carnivore soaking its prey.
The behavior was first recorded in August 2020 when a lynx named Naia was seen carrying a freshly killed rabbit to a water trough and submerging it for over a minute. Since then, 5 different females have been observed doing the same thing 8 times, always during the hot summer months in central Spain.
Experiments confirmed that a soaked rabbit carcass retains water for up to 40 minutes. Scientists believe the lynxes may be using the soaked meat to hydrate their cubs or ease the transition from milk to solid food. The behavior runs in family groups, suggesting these solitary cats can learn from each other.
Oh, you glob molten plastics onto a hot plate, too? That's one of my favorite hobbies!
Explore and manage your applications with GNOME Circle's newest app, Bazaar, the next generation Flatpak store! Thanks Eva and Alexander Vanhee for maintaining Bazaar!

I cannot overstate how much the revolution needs kind, reliable, people who show up when you need them and does not need drug-addled cut-rate Hunter S. Thompson impersonators.
Do I know anyone who's made a Kodi application? I'm interested in learning a bit more about developing addons for it but I don't know where to begin.
I added www.youtube.com###secondary to my uBlock Origin filters and my life is like 1000% better.
I'm installing my first Gentoo without systemd shortly, wish me luck, etc etc

yesterday i was talking about mastodon and someone was like "what the fuck is that" and without thinking i said "linux twitter"
You know that Mastodon feature where you can't migrate your followers for 30 days after an attempt? Is there a way to alter that timeline as an admin?
I kind of borked my last run of follower migrations by messing with the server after initializing it, and I'm wanting to give it another try real quick before deleting the old instance.
Another reason I try my darndest to avoid LLM-built "FOSS" tools: the humans who publish them often enough aren't prepared to support them.
When that neat utility that Claude burped out is deprecated by some breaking change, are you going to have someone to reach out to? Are you going to understand it? Or will the "author" have moved on toward some other thing that nabbed their attention?
UPDATE: some helpful folks pointed me to kscreen-doctor which looks like the current way to get this done. Thanks folks!
Looking for help with KDE Plasma.
I have a teleprompter, it mirrors the screen. Mirror in this case doesn't mean "shows the same thing another screen does", I mean literally: it's a mirror. Like the kind that reflects light back at you.
In swaywm I can easily apply a transform flipped on that display, in order for the mirror to show me the correct information. In GNOME I can use gdctl to perform a similar transformation. Does KDE Plasma have a similar utility?
Please note: I am not talking about "rotating" a screen, I'm talking about flipping, inverting, or reversing a screen so that it is visible in a literal physical mirror
I went out with eclipse glasses earlier this afternoon and saw a teeny tiny bite taken out of the sun. It was neat, and it gave my family and I a chance to reminisce about the amazing eclipse we had here a couple of years ago.
I'm loving seeing all of these photos though.
Here's one of my prophecies about LLMs that has come true:
Getting good software out of an LLM is like getting good software out of an intern with no prior professional expertise. Technically possible, but it takes a *lot* of time and attention from the mentor.
And the downside is: This investment of effort when applied with a human eventually produces a human that no longer needs it. But an LLM will always need you to micromanage it and it will never learn from you the way a human would.
Convinced that home assistant is a covert operation to sabotage productivity of people who would otherwise spend weekends inventing things

I'm posting this because PeerTube doesn't have a "point followers to a new instance" option, so I have to manually ask folks to switch. I plan to do so in a dedicated video, but haven't had time to produce one.
Testing testing! Just upgraded my GoToSocial to the latest and greatest.
I love the fediverse. Everyone is an influencer but it's for shit like fountain pens and seeds.
