Verticals throws need to be worked on daily. Receivers need to run and not look back for 20 yards. QBs need to take a 3 step drop, look off the safety, then throw. They need to understand the speed of the WR and the leverage of the CB that can effect the distance of the throw.

- However many hitches you’re throwing right now isn’t enough. It’s been well documented in football that corners are the worst tacklers on the field. Challenge them to tackle your best athletes by throwing hitches often. When they start playing tight throw the smash route.
- Pivot is a great backside concept for any area of the field. Give your WRs some freedom in this route but they need to understand to be open late rather than early. Goal is to have some change of pace and get the defender to think you’re working in. Then burst outside quickly.
- Reps, reps, reps! Get bored of running the same thing over and over again. Run it against different coverages and different scenarios. Rep it so much that you can call anything in a game and you know the kids will execute.
- Receivers have to be able to change their pace when running routes sometimes. Especially in backside routes that are around 5 yds. Be patient and understand that you need to be open late rather than early. Route running cannot be robotic.
