    UK households lose £1.6bn a year to subscriptions they forgot to cancel, undermining consumer confidence and holding the country back. This week the government brought forward plans to fix that, continuing a fight for consumer rights the co-op movement has led since 1844.

    Barclays made £3.3bn profit last quarter alone. UK community lenders, who reach the small businesses banks turn away, lent just £181m in the whole of 2025. Gareth Thomas MP wants Barclays, Santander and HSBC to each put in £10m, and a Fair Banking Act to make sure they do.
