It's likely the capacity will drop a bit after renovations. Spartan Stadium currently seats 74,866, ranking 8th in the Big Ten and 21st nationally. MSU could lose roughly 4,700 seats and still maintain its rank ahead of every stadium currently below it. We'll see.

i assume the upper deck east side will be changed and more bleachers will be replaced with seats/VIP seating, so will capacity take a hit when renovations are done?

This is a great take – if your goal is to destroy the trust of every player you’ve recruited and every player you’ll recruit in the future. The damage that would do to the program would outweigh the benefit of getting Kohler back by multiples.

MSU twitter didn’t like this one Tom Izzo is a stand up guy. A pillar of old school ethics and morals But why isn’t it fair to ask if that holds them back in the slimy sport of college hoops?

Not to my understanding. These are still early, conceptual renderings & I haven’t seen anything indicating a permanent north end zone expansion. They could be showing temporary seating for '28 to replace capacity lost during east-side construction, but that hasn’t been confirmed.

all the renderings show a full height north end zone, not what we currently have with about half the rows as the south end zone. are they actually expanding that?

In 2028, construction areas will be separated from the public through temporary fencing, full-height debris netting, controlled access points, and protected corridors designed to move thousands of people around the site without allowing them into areas where work is taking place.

The date that will naturally attract the most attention is Oct. 25, 2027, when demolition is scheduled to begin, but by then Michigan State and its construction team will have spent nearly two years preparing for that moment.
