Let's go to Mars! NASA contributed a gamma-ray and neutron spectrometer instrument to the MMX mission, which will explore Mars’ moons Phobos and Deimos and deliver a sample from Phobos to Earth. science.nasa.gov/mission/mmx/st…

On Earth, solar eclipses happen when the Moon passes in front of the Sun as seen from the ground. On Mars, sometimes one of its moons does the same thing…but they’re too small to fully cover the Sun’s disc. Perseverance captured this look at Phobos transiting the Sun in 2024.

A giant leap to Mars! 🚀 NASA recently completed testing of a lithium-fed electromagnetic thruster, reaching 5x more power than today's electric propulsion systems. Paired with a nuclear power source, this tech could slash travel time to Mars! MORE: go.nasa.gov/4goVg4g…
The magnetoplasmadynamic thruster is firing during a test series at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory. This straight-on view looks directly into the magnetoplasmadynamic thruster’s nozzle. The circular opening glows bright pink, with a lighter rim around the edge. At the center, a textured pattern of small, light-colored shapes is visible, surrounded by a deeper pink halo of plasma. The background is mostly dark, causing the bright nozzle and plasma to stand out. Credit: NASA JPL

A bright, circular nozzle glows in warm yellow tones, with a smooth transition into a vivid pink plume extending outward. The plume fills the right side of the image, creating a soft, diffused glow against a dark background. Credit: NASA JPL

SkyFall is already taking flight, at least in the lab.

A Mars helicopter with a tuxedo tail? In this demo for SkyFall, a new, flexible antenna is put through its paces. This ground penetrating radar antenna will hunt for frozen water beneath the Martian surface ⏤ a critical resource for future astronauts.

Stargazing …or rather, Earthgazing… on Mars! 🌏🔭 Perseverance watched as Earth vanished behind the moon Phobos in the evening sky. This is the first time humanity has made an observation from the surface of another planet showing Earth disappearing behind a celestial body.
The sky at dusk, above a narrow strip of dark horizon near the bottom of the image. An inset box near the center of the image shows a magnified view of two star-like objects in the sky, and a series of images taken over a few minutes that show the larger of the two objects passing in front of the smaller one.
A series of images taken over the course of a few minutes that show the lumpy moon Phobos passing in front of a blue star that is Earth in the sky.
