    Tropical Storm Lala is expected to gradually strengthen tonight and become a Hurricane during the day Saturday. Lala will likely make its closest approach or landfall on the Big Island during the afternoon Saturday. Be safe everyone!

    Don’t let lightning catch you off guard. ⚡Follow the 30-minute rule: wait at least half an hour after you see lightning or hear thunder before heading back outside. Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors!
    Storm Safety during outdoor events: Move to a fully-enclosed structure or hard-top vehicle at the first sign of lightning. Wait 30 minutes after the last strike before resuming activities. Watch for falling debris and flying objects during high winds. Use caution when walking on wet surfaces to avoid dangerous slips and falls. When Thunder Roars, Go Indoors!

    Isolated to scattered severe thunderstorms are possible today from parts of the southern/central High Plains to the mid Mississippi and lower Ohio Valleys. Severe gusts capable of wind damage should be the main threat, but occasional hail may also occur. weather.gov
    NOAA Storm Prediction Center Day 1 Categorical Outlook for Thursday, August 13, 2026. A Slight Risk (Level 2 of 5) is centered over portions of Iowa and Illinois. A broad Marginal Risk (Level 1) extends from the central Plains through the Midwest into the Ohio Valley, with separate Marginal Risk areas in the Great Basin and northern New England. General thunderstorms are possible across much of the West, central and northern U.S., Southeast, Gulf Coast, and Northeast.
