I've made a blog-post where all the resources I've shared - from science curriculum documents to tier two vocabulary lists - can be downloaded. Help yourself! primarycolour.home.blog/2019/11/02/one…

I have just completed a series of four professional development videos on the subject of teaching effective whole-class reading lessons. These videos contain high-quality footage of me teaching each part of the reading lesson structures from Primary Reading Simplified. >>

There is a product pushed at schools that asks children to read aloud while a 'reading window' moves across the lines at a speed determined by the program. It is a deeply misguided idea that could only be created by someone with a weak grasp of reading development. >>

The great irony of 'lanyardian' becoming a synonym for 'out of touch with normal people' is that loads of normal people (e.g. shop assistants, teachers, etc) wear lanyards to work, and only someone startlingly out of touch with normal people would not realise this.

Glad it's not just me who finds talk of the "UK" very stilted and lanyardian. Normal people say "Britain" and politicians should too, unless there's a very specific Northern Ireland-themed reason.

My two cents: Most of the solution to English would involve ensuring almost every pupil becomes a fluent reader through instruction and intervention that prioritises actual time spent reading to develop word recognition automaticity. >>

Why is it that most years almost a third of teenagers don’t get a 4 (a C in old terms) in English and Maths? Whats the solution?
