Earlier this year, my office and @ECAatState entered into a partnership with @usedgov to crack down on lapsed disclosures of foreign funding at universities. Not only did we obtain records of previously unreported donations — many come from sanctioned or “watchlisted” entities

Large portions of civil society have lost their minds on censorship. Darkly funny to even imagine how this would work. Would the government auction chits allowing journalists to report on controversies of public concern? License preapproved outlets with favored viewpoints?

Paivi was prosecuted for quoting the Bible. A downstream effect of countries criminalizing speech is that systems designed to flag and filter “criminals” trigger rippling second-order punishments. Can lead to debanking, visa denials, and more.
