    I think this metaphor is mostly good. AI proofs, even with the best SoTA models, often handwave over mistakes that only come out on the process of refining (the handwave is a classic human error, too). This is also a key feature of all plain language math: arguments that in

    Mathematicians are going to have their hands full understanding what AI discovers. It's like we replaced human miners with mining machines, but humans still need to do the refining and processing of the raw ore.

    I went to the (great) workshop in Leiden that led to the Leiden Declaration, but ended up not signing it, as it didn't really represent my views, though it wasn't too different either, so the decision wasn't an obvious one. I've explained more in a blog post. Link in next tweet.

    I think we address it by ensuring the rest of the interview process functions correctly: the talk, the discussions (which perhaps need to be closer to interrogations about a paper) and the weight on other parts of the CV. Maybe we mentally recalibrate our body-of-work-metrics
