Gyllenbögels Freicorps

Was some time sins my latest Finnish War 1808 update, this time some Swedish units of the Gyllenbögelns Freicorps. The Freicop was established during the summer of 1808 on the island of Åland and under command of Captain Anders Gyllenbögeln. The Freicorps was composed of The Åland Vargering Battalion (4 companies) and the Sharpshooter Battalion (2 companies) and later the Närpes and Malaks Militia (Lantvärn) Battalion (3 companies) and probably a 3pdr regimental gun.

The Gyllenbögelns Freicorps took part in several engangements and performed quite well especially at the Battle at Lappfjärd 29th august 1808 there they took part in the rout of the Russian attackers.

The minis are a mix of Brigade game 1812 range, Perry AWI and Napoleonic as well as some Victrix plastic british converted to Swedes.

At the end you can see my totaly anacronistic flag i used for the Åland Vargering Battalion, no record of thath they even had one but I thought it would look better, so I made one up inspired by the Swedish enlisted regiments colours.

Russian Irregular Cossacks 1808

As I hade Regular Cossacks I needed some Irregulars Cossacks to :) 

So got me a box of Gripping Beast Arab Light Cavalry and converted them in to my needed Russian Irregular Cavalry, once again most of the heads are from Perry plastics and the loot on back of the horses are mostly Victrix french backpacks.

Last some pictures of both the Regular and Irregular Cossacks.

Russian Regular Cossacks 1808

Got a free box from Warlord Games by the ones to choose from the British Union  Brigade was the best as I could convert them in to ok Russian Regular Cossacks for my 1808 project, made me a unit of Guard Cossacks (Read) and a unit of Uniformed Cossacks (Blue). The heads are from different Perry plastic boxes, probably french cavalry if I recolect right.

Russian Dragoons 1808

 

Made me a unit of Russian Dragoons, mounted and dissmounte and a base of horseholders. Made out of Perry Plastic French Dragoons, not sure of the heads, think they are from some other Perry box.

Russian Artillery 1808

 

Have rebased most of my existin Finnish War 1808 minis and are now painting minis from my leadpile :) Here are some pictures of a 6pdr and a 3pdr for the Russians with limber/draft horses.

Russian Grenadiers and officers 1808

 

Needed some Russian Grenadiers too... These units are made up of all sort of long coated minis... french, russians from crimean war etc. they all go Russian Grenadier caps and it in the end turned out good enought, for me at least, sorry if i upset any uniformhearts... :)

Also some mounted officers/commanders on 40mm round bases.

Russian Jaegers 1808

These minis have been re-based and to some degree re-painted as Jaegers, wanted all my jaegers in a more Skirmish look and I also just based 4 minis on each base to show the looser formation and distinguish them from the line infantry. I also made me 4 bases of Skirmishing jaegers. All (I think) minis from Brigade Games.

Russian Infantry 1808

Next up are 2 battalions of Russian line infantry, these are just re-based (50x40mm bases) and I will have to paint me some more, at least 2 more Battalions of them.
