How are you marketing your Chrome extension? by businessminds7 in chrome_extensions

[–]Dapper-Window-4492 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, the Chrome Web Store search is the most consistent for passive growth, but Reddit is where the initial spark usually happens.

For my extensions... I’ve found that just posting I made this' doesn't work anymore. What works is finding a specific problem in a sub and mentioning the tool as a solution, but you have to be helpful first. I also spend a lot of time on Store SEO (keywords in the manifest/description) because that’s how people find you when you're sleeping. Don't ignore small niche communities either. Getting 10 vocal users from a specific sub is better than 1,000 drive-by installs that delete it an hour later. What’s your extension’s main hook?

How can I make this historical 3D battle map feel more immersive? by Dapper-Window-4492 in threejs

That's a solid tip, thanks for the link! I see what you mean about the pitch, it makes the UI feel more like an app and less like a game loop.

I’ll definitely look into swapping the generic click for a more neutral tactile sound and saving the pitched tones for the state changes. Appreciate you taking the time to find that sample!

I love the camera man idea. Mocap is the dream! For now, I'm a solo dev focusing on the topography and unit logic, but simulated camerawork is definitely on my list. Appreciate the vision!"

Spot on. I’m currently looking into better heightmap resolution for the tactical areas and using some low-poly horizon meshes to hide the edges. Trying to balance it without killing the mobile performance. Appreciate the tip!

Good catch. It’s actually a background ambient loop, not tied to the clicks, but I can see how it gets repetitive. I’ll look into staggering the audio or adding a toggle for it. Thanks for the heads up!

That’s a great shout on the infinite plane look. Adding some fog or low-poly mountain borders to break that hard edge would definitely help the immersion. Also currently tweaking the post-processing stack to get the lighting to feel more cinematic without killing the FPS. Thanks for the solid feedback, man!

Thank you! i have been focusing on the tactical accuracy and the custom engine first, but high fidelity terrain is the next big milestone.

What do you think of the charge mechanic in my RTS game? by Aggravating_Ant1516 in gamedevscreens

[–]Dapper-Window-4492 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The spring/repulsion approach is a classic for performance, especially with high unit counts. The only downside is that it can feel a bit like magnetism rather than a heavy physical impact.

I've been experimenting with similar repulsion logic for a 3D tactical project lately. One trick to get that smash feeling without a true collision system is to temporarily increase the repulsion radius of the charging units based on their velocity. It essentially plows the enemy units out of the way before the actual collision happens.

Thanks for checking this out! I’m particularly struggling with the lighting/environment balance. I want it to look cinematic without killing the frame rate on mobile browsers.

Also, if anyone has experience with instanced meshes for large-scale troop movements, I’d love to pick your brain!

Do you think it’s a Seerah gap with our new generation? by Dapper-Window-4492 in MuslimCorner

[–]Dapper-Window-4492[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

JazakAllah Khair for the thoughts so far. I honestly feel like if we don't bridge this Seerah gap soon, our history will just become a footnote for the next generation. I've been trying to find more visual ways to make these moments feel real for my own family, but it’s tough to compete with the high-end tech they see everywhere else.

Curious to know, have any of you found specific books, videos, or even games that actually worked for your kids or younger siblings?

The pixel art is great, but for a truly heavy charge, try focusing on formation penetration. Instead of the units just stopping at the front line, if the cavalry can physically push into the enemy rank by a few pixels based on their velocity, it feels 10x more devastating than screen shake. Adding a slight stagger animation to the hit units makes the impact feel crunchy rather than just a collision.

Are you handling the unit collisions through a grid... or a custom physics approach? I've been wrestling with similar clash logic for a 3D tactical project lately and it’s a tough balance to get right!

Mapping the Seerah I spent months building a 3D visualization of the Battle of Badr to see the strategy we often miss. by Dapper-Window-4492 in islamichistory

Ameen, JazakAllah Khair! Yarmouk is actually one of my favorite battles to study, the strategy there was legendary. Mapping those complex troop movements in 3D is a huge goal for PureBattles . I’m working through the Seerah first, but Khalid ibn Walid’s (RA) brilliance at Yarmouk is definitely on the roadmap.

Stay tuned, and I’d love your feedback on the Badr/Uhud/Trench maps in the meantime!

JazakAllah Khair! It’s been a labor of love for the last few months trying to bridge the gap between our history and modern 3D tech. If you have a moment, I’d love your feedback.

That is definitely on the roadmap! Exploring the tactical brilliance of Khalid ibn Walid (RA) in 3D is a major goal for this project. I’m a solo dev building these maps manually to ensure the topography and troop movements are accurate. You can see the current progress and the Badr/Uhud/Trench maps.

Which specific battle of his would you want to see first Yarmouk or Ullais?

HistoryMarche is legendary, but I wanted to go beyond a video and let people actually walk through the tactics in a 3D web app. You’re spot on about Khandaq (The Trench)! I’ve actually already built that map with full tactical detail.

It’s currently part of the Premium access to support the months of manual 3D work I put into this project. You can explore the Badr and Uhud at PureBattles. Would love to hear what you think of the battle scale!

Fair point! I’m a software engineer and I spent the last few months building this 3D engine using React and Three.js to map the Seerah accurately. You can explore the interactive version at PureBattles.com. I’ve unlocked the Full Badr Strategy for free so everyone can experience the tactical scale.

I’m a solo dev would love your feedback on the performance!

Thank you! It’s been a long journey moving from 2D maps to a full 3D engine. You can explore the interactive version at PureBattles . I’m a solo dev building this manually to ensure the topography and troop movements are as accurate as possible to the Seerah.

I've actually just unlocked the Full Badr Strategy for free for my early supporters. I’d love to get your feedback on the Three.js performance and the tactical layout!

I’ve always felt there was a missing puzzle in how we study the Seerah it’s hard to visualize the scale and terrain of the battles just from text. I spent the last few months manually building this 3D engine to map the topography of Badr. I wanted to see the 'near side' vs. the 'far side' and understand the strategic challenges the Prophet (PBUH) faced.

Nope. Its competitors (Codex, Gemini CLI) are open source, but Claude Code is strictly proprietary.
