From here to a score

Five steps. All free the first time.

  1. 01

Email or Google. Your first run is free and no card is asked for.

  2. 02

Name the firm and the role

Paste a resume and a job description if you have them. Questions are written for that role.

  3. 03

    Answer four questions

Our standard preset: 30 seconds to prepare, 2 minutes to answer, one take. Follow your invite timings.

  4. 04

    Read your score

A score out of a hundred for the run and for every question, plus your strongest and weakest answer named.

  5. 05

    Read the coaching

What to keep and the one thing to fix in every answer, quoting what you said. Opening the coaching costs less than a coffee, and another interview is nine dollars, or eight euros in the EU.

What one free run actually gives you

One take. A ticking clock, a silent room, and a read on what you actually said.

Feel the pressure of one take

Thirty seconds to think, then two minutes to answer. It starts on its own and it does not stop.

Nobody is on the call

You talk to a lens and a countdown. That is the part people are not ready for.

What you will actually face

Nobody is on the call. You record answers to fixed prompts on your own, and the employer watches them later.

A link and a deadline, usually a few days.

  2. 2

Nothing runs during your real interview

There is no extension, no desktop app and no overlay. You practise here, you close the tab, and you sit the real interview on your own. Employers are actively testing for assistants that feed answers on screen, and being caught with one ends the application.

This is the version you can tell your careers service about.

  • No browser extension to install
  • Nothing on screen while you interview
  • Your camera is a preview only, never uploaded
  • Answers are yours, written by you

What people ask before they record

Can you retake a HireVue interview?

The employer decides, not HireVue. Some setups let you re-record a single question and the screen tells you before you start; redoing the whole interview after you submit is rarely granted. If something genuinely broke, email the recruiting team the same day and ask for a new link. Retakes, results and scoring

Does an AI score your answers?

HireVue says its models are built per job role and analyse the content of what you say, not one general algorithm. Fortune reported that only about 20 percent of its customers used the automated predictive scoring, so a recruiter may well be the one watching. Either way, the substance of your examples is what is being read. How HireVue scoring works

Does HireVue still analyse your facial expressions?

No. HireVue removed facial analysis in March 2020 and announced it in January 2021. Fortune reported that non-verbal attributes were adding roughly 4 percent to predictive accuracy, which was not worth the bias concerns. Practise what you say, not how you smile. What HireVue stopped assessing

How long do you get per question?

Commonly about 30 seconds to read and prepare, then 90 seconds to three minutes to record. Most interviews run 5 to 8 questions in under 20 to 30 minutes, and HireVue advises setting aside 45 minutes. Your invitation is the only source that is right for your interview. The full format and timings

Are the practice questions the real ones?

No. The practice interview inside HireVue uses generic warm-up prompts so you learn the buttons and the countdown. The scored questions are written by the employer and you see them for the first time when the clock starts. Rehearse the format there, and rehearse the answers separately. 20 prompts and model answers

What should you wear?

What you would wear to a live interview with that employer, from head to toe rather than waist up. Solid colours read better on camera than prints. Overdressing is the safer mistake. The setup and camera checklist

How long do results take?

The employer sets the timeline and HireVue does not control it, which is why two people who recorded on the same day can hear back a week apart. Graduate schemes that review in batches are the slowest. If the deadline in your invitation has passed with no reply, one polite follow-up to the recruiting team is reasonable. What sets the timeline

Is using HireVue Practice allowed?

Yes. You practise here before the interview and nothing of ours runs while you sit the real one. There is no extension and no overlay, so there is nothing for an employer to detect. Tools that feed you answers live during the interview are a different thing, and being caught with one ends the application.

How is my answer scored?

Each answer is transcribed and read against what a first-round interviewer looks for: whether you answered the question asked, whether the example is specific, whether the result is concrete, and whether the structure holds. Your free run gives a score out of a hundred for the whole interview and for each question, and names your strongest and weakest answer. The coaching that names the part worth keeping and the single thing to fix in every answer is the paid part, 4.99 for that interview. It is coaching on your content, not a HireVue score and not a hiring prediction.

Do I need a webcam?

No. A microphone is required because your answer is spoken. The camera preview is optional and exists only so you can see yourself the way an employer would. It is never recorded, never uploaded and never scored.

What happens to my recordings?

Your audio is turned into a transcript and is not stored. The transcript and the feedback stay with your account so you can compare runs, and they are deleted twelve months after your last run. You can download everything or delete your account from Settings at any time.

What does it cost?

Your first interview is free and no card is asked for. Its scores and verdict are yours to keep, and its coaching costs 4.99, in dollars or in euro. One credit runs a whole new interview, coaching included. One interview is nine dollars, five are thirty-five and ten are fifty-nine, paid once. In the European Union you pay in euro: eight, thirty-one and fifty-two. There is no subscription. If you have not started a paid run you can ask for a full refund within fourteen days.
