Two factor authentication (2FA) as part of the core CMS

I'm conscious there is already a basic 2FA add on available for Statamic, but I'm hoping this could be included into the core of Statamic. I personally feel all sites users should have the option of offering 2FA by default.

I'm commenting on this to hopefully get some visibility.

This is even more pertinent now that it's up in the air as to whether or not JCR9 are still supporting the add-on. I've tried reaching out to them with no luck.
