Battleground Republicans are starting to worry about the Senate by malcolm58 in politics

[–]Actual__Wizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's the job of members of the republican party to not care about their constituents. That's not their function in government... They use a hierarchy of power, they do not listen to their constituents... That's the whole purpose to that party. They reduce the government to something small, like a dictatorship for the exclusive purpose of not listening to anybody besides their dictator. It's suppose to be a mechanism to "reset the laws in the country in the case that democracy got manipulated somehow." But, instead they're using their power to manipulate the laws of the country, to protect their evil thug buddies.

Their function is to protect the country, which is quite different than Trump's version of the party, which seems to operate on the premise of victimizing the country.

Yeah if this right wing take over ever ends, people like Alex Karp and Peter Thiel are going to look very foolish. How does a person become so out of tune with reality? There's really nobody there to tell Alex Karp to shut up? Seriously? Since "this could be his only time to shine" shouldn't he be focusing on what matters? So, he's going to make more political enemies? How many enemies does one need? I thought the goal was not to have those and I thought the goal was to make money? So, WTF is Alex Karp even doing? Alex Karp is really demonstrating some of the worst decision making by a business person of all time.

The people who are military contractors are suppose to have honor and demonstrate stability. Alex Karp is a chaos machine that demonstrates nothing besides his dishonor. He's legitimately one of the worst people possible to be in that position. The US military has no demand for dishonorable people and I have no clue as to why nobody told Alex Karp that and somebody certainly should have clued him in to the reality that he's acting like a spoiled brat, and that's not a good look, at all.

And I know Alex is probably looking at somebody like me thinking "oh boy that loser can't even get PR." Actually, I've done that tons of times for clients... It's works a lot better when you're not toxic... It works a lot better when you're actually making the world a better place...

They're currently floating between Democracy and Authoritarianism

The US is currently not a democracy. There is virtually no democracy at all. The media has been manipulated extremely badly and that includes things like school text books. 80% of media in the US is currently right wing biased to some extent.

Yep, that's Alex Karp. He's totally willing to reduce your freedom if that means more money for him. He made it pretty clear one time that he will kill people for money and that he doesn't care about things like that. Maybe that's not the right person to be making decisions for the entire country...

Ohio’s nursing homes are dumping patients at homeless shelters by igetproteinfartsHELP in news

[–]Actual__Wizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ohio healthcare, especially nursing homes, and rehabilitation centers, are a massive scam. There is something seriously wrong with the regulations and these facilities are just milking their patients for money. There's barely any staff at all and they're not capable of dealing with any real medical problems. Then they charge absurd amount of money for the "barely anything" they give their patients. It's truly disgusting and our governor is a monster for ignoring this serious problem in the state...

Robot beats humans to win Beijing half-marathon. by coinfanking in ArtificialInteligence

[–]Actual__Wizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think any of the billionaires funding the development of these robots are trying to emphasize the dystopian angle of robots replacing people.

I see it every single day... It's all the same publications that when I was doing outreach marketing, wouldn't talk to us, and we found out that there's some shady agency that we're suppose to talk to, who wouldn't talk to us. These people have this totally weird private network of business contracts that "have locked the market up."

So, if you think Forbes is legit, uh, as far as I know, it's a giant paid advertisement.

Ohio here, small business parks are still like 1/3rd empty here in many areas. It still feels like the local economy is dead. Every year, we backslide a tiny bit more. The republican policies of economic suppression need to end permanently here. We have a lot of rebuilding to do as it is now.

Everything just gets worse and worse as we sit around and watch big tech companies in Silicon Valley rip off the entire planet with their evil schemes. Great, they got everybody's kid addicted to social media, so now what? Our entire state who's economy is based upon people spending money in the state, no longer functions correctly.

Note: I edited my post.

progress in bipedal robots is nothing more than just marketing hype

That's exactly what it is though. It still takes a ton of effort to operate that robot.

It's the proof of concept and demonstration of progress that this is actually about.

But again, it's always that "terrible marketing angle of robots being superior to humans instead of helping them." It's just so awful. Why would anybody want that? Who is the audience of that? Other robots?!?!

Edit: They critically need to stop turning their marketing efforts into humans vs robots. It's toxic and I don't understand why they can't figure that out. That's certainly not a valid demand generation strategy either, it does the opposite. Their tactics do not make me want their product, it makes me angry at them... How do they not understand that what they are doing makes no sense? I swear the people making these decisions just look at vanity metrics like visibility and don't think about "what that visibility means." How many times does somebody have to try to murder Sam Altman before these people wake up to the reality that people don't want what they're selling? Then one considers their message, I mean why would a human being want that?

Being able to mimic that shape is what unlocks the ability for robots to become first responders in burning buildings, to climb up stairs, climb ladders, work on oil rigs, fit in crawlspaces and much more.

Man, you already knew about the "dangerous jobs talking point."

There's a good use case there for sure...

They need to market them that way, because that's such a good marketing angle. Because yeah, that is legitimately a good use for them... Yeah send the robot into the burning house to look for trapped people instead of risking a human life. That absolutely makes complete sense. Even if the robots are expensive and fragile.

If that was their main "marketing angle" instead of "robots are taking your jobs" then I think people would have a different opinion of what these companies are doing.

If they're "building robots to save lives" then I hope they take their task seriously and save many!

It's the same thing with the LLM based AI. If they're creating "assistants that help doctors make better medical decisions and it actually does work well in practice." Then I'm 100% for that, but that's not really what they're doing. They're trying to replace medical professionals with a chat bot... Instead of marketing a product that saves lives, they're marketing a product that kills jobs. It really is terrible marketing...

Microsoft announces product it doesn't want anyone to buy by itskdog in nottheonion

[–]Actual__Wizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Microsoft is nonetheless clearly less than pleased that some customers have not yet migrated.

That's just too bad now isn't it? Their business model sucks and that's not our problem. If they think we're going to keep paying them money, uh, we can just vibe code alternatives to their products and run them on linux... Their products are massively over complicated and because those tasks are common, you can just vibe code something out that works just fine for your use case. It stinks that Microsoft put us into this position, but they did.

I just ran the Oracle calculator for the server I want to build, I didn't even fill in the user numbers correctly, and it was a $2million dollar estimate. That's not "workable anymore." I can just vibe code something out that "solves my problems" in a week or two...

All these tech companies are completely spaced out... They're pretending like we don't have better alternatives when we do...

I really do think coding assistants are going to end up killing big tech. Their business is not sustainable now and they're not "improving the situation", they're actually just making it worse.

The worst possible thing Microsoft could do is to start forcing their users to "upgrade," because our "upgrade path isn't a Microsoft product." If they want us to upgrade to linux and vibe coded apps that do exactly what we need and nothing else: SURE THING MAN!!! Keep pissing your customers off and we will and we won't look back.

2 million dollars for database tech? Get out of here... I know that's Oracle and not Microsoft, but it's the same tactics. SQLite exists and it's free, and there's code on github to turn it into a cluster for free. Why on Earth would I even talk to Oracle? It's not going to work out and it's the same thing w/ Microsoft. We really don't want to use their products, but they're there and if they work, then they work.

It's the same deal w/ exchange server, by the time I've figured out how the pricing works, I've already found something on github that will work well enough for my tasks. Figuring out Zimbra sounds cheaper... I'm already installing it and I still don't know how much it's going to cost for MS exchange server w/ 1M mailboxes... What is realistically going to have more tech debt in a custom deployment? Open source code that I can just extend the functionality of? Or some closed source project that will likely require some kind of middle ware to manipulate into getting it to work the way I need it to?

It feels like I'm going to be paying a lot of money for nothing by going with MS products...

Engineers will soon be measured by how many credits they burn by Ejboustany in ArtificialInteligence

[–]Actual__Wizard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Businesses are now paying software engineer salaries plus AI credits on top.

That's disgusting. So, they're not being paid by how well they solve difficult engineering problems? So, they're not being paid by what actually matters?

We need real leadership to grab the reins here in tech land. This stuff is beyond insane.

It's time to start new companies if this is how badly they are behaving.

I suppose you could call it a waste of money at the time, you could also call it marketing expenditure for IBM.

Well, obviously because there's still people who remember that PR stunt and that's all marketing/advertising is: Trying to occupy space in people's minds.

I just wish people would understand that "things are what they are."

It's a feat, it's interesting, but it's not that big of a deal.

It was more like better computers are eventually going to redefine and take control over how we find the best moves in chess, which is exactly what happened.

Yeah, the best chess players in the world adapted and got even better.

but it does show the speed of progress of robotics and gives us a taste of the inevitable future where robots will be better at almost every physical task than humans.

That's not how economics operates. Those robots are ultra expensive to operate and we have automation that does similar tasks for way less money. The near future isn't bipedal robots, it's the Amazon warehouse style machines that have wheels. They're way less interesting as far as PR goes but, they're way more useful overall.
