dark wizard attacking f2p ppl in draynor bank :( by NorthernCountess in 2007scape

[–]hj17 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Got my first ever full rune, berserker helm, and dragon battleaxe from some unfortunate soul who presumably overestimated his abilities against the werewolves in Canifis, back in late 2005. I was absolutely elated, it made my whole week!

Leagues 6 Has Made Me Appreciate How Good The Varlamore Assets Look by HeredinOSRS in 2007scape

[–]hj17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm mostly an RS3 player, I haven't done much OSRS-exclusive content, but what little I have done is all in Varlamore, and I really love the look and feel of it all. It's yet more proof that art direction trumps fidelity.

Anyone else's totem pieces all missing and not in the bank?? by AverageRs3Enjoyer in runescape

[–]hj17 20 points21 points  (0 children)

The bag is bugged, the mouseover tooltip text does not reflect the actual state of your totem pieces for any totem you have not completed. It just copies the state of whatever owned totem you last selected. It's been this way for a while now.

You gotta click on the pieces to make the popup appear in order to get accurate data.

I played for a couple hours after Anna released, but that was the only time I've played since the pre-Clive days. Other than that, I haven't touched the game at all outside of a few hours in practice mode to try out combos I saw on twitter or experiment with some newly discovered tech, or stuff like that.

Level 99/120 Magic should unlock a universal secondary spellbook by Exitiali in runescape

[–]hj17 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That sounds pretty cool, I spent a lot of time earning mine back in the day but it hasn't seen any use in well over a decade now. Though I don't know if having only one extra spell would make much of a difference.

Can we chill with the “buff everything” takes after aura removal? by Thewhatandthewho in runescape

[–]hj17 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I don't necessarily have an issue with things being nerfed, nor do I want anything to be super buffed either, I just don't like how they're becoming more of a pain in the ass to use.

What I used to be able to just turn on for an hour with 1 click now requires me to cast it 5 times throughout that hour, and also now eats up a bunch of extra inventory slots for the runes, even more if I need to spellbook swap too.

Given that their main function (at least for me) was being able to AFK without needing to worry about restoring prayer/eating, taking such a hit to the convenience factor for something whose main selling point was its convenience factor is a bit of a pain point.

However, I will say that I don't think Greenfingers deserved as much of a nerf as it got. That's the one aura that had pretty close to 100% uptime for those of us who didn't care to get sweaty enough to rapid growth/sunburst bracelet our way to doing 40 minute herb run cycles, so it feels like a more significant nerf compared to the auras with 4 hour cooldowns.

Aspects & Solomons Store by JagexAnvil in runescape

[–]hj17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally I'm mostly fine with the aspects solution as it is, minus the 12 minute cast thing and needing to carry runes for both penance and spellbook swap.

The main reason I used penance before was to just throw on soul split and AFK for an hour, so only being able to AFK for 12 minutes is quite a downgrade. Obviously I'm not thrilled with needing to carry a whopping six extra rune types just to use it with ancients, either.

Spell tablets seem like a natural solution to the runes issue, at least. Maybe some kind of invention device that can autocast the spell akin to potion reservoirs would solve the other one.

"we plan to take the Loyalty Store offline at the end of April" by chifton in runescape

[–]hj17 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I'm one of the people who actually did spend my points while I had the chance, but I can understand why people are upset.

I had enough loyalty points to buy a lot of stuff, but not enough for everything that was available for loyalty points.. I wanted to take the time to go through all the options and decide what I wanted to get with what I did have, but in the end I decided to just rush through and buy a bunch of stuff that I thought looked "good enough" without thinking too hard about it, because I thought something like this might happen and didn't know if I'd get around to it doing it properly before they removed it unexpectedly. My foresight paid off.

I imagine there's probably a lot of people out there like me, who had been planning to spend their points but thought they had more time, and now instead of getting whatever they had enough for, they instead just get nothing. That doesn't feel good when you had hundreds of thousands or millions of points stocked up, that have now just completely gone to waste.

The fact that the aura replacements were granted for free to people who already owned the high tiers of those auras is also going to be salt in the wound for people who could have afforded those auras but chose not to buy them because they thought it would be a waste of points with auras due to be removed.

If they were going to integrate auras back into actual gameplay, why didn't they just buff the Blood Essence items? Y'know, the pocket slot items that ALREADY have a lesser Penance and Vampyrism variant? by Xdude227 in runescape

[–]hj17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, a simple reworking of auras rather than removal and redistribution of their effects was the suggestion I saw the most, and the one I was hoping for. But alas, someone decided that auras don't fit with the direction they want to take the game, somehow, and they were dead-set on removing them so here we are.

Personally, I would have just made them toggleable like scrimshaws and god books are, and add charge to them with vis wax or something.

[–]hj17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I assume they didn't go this route because they didn't want them to be able to be active at the same time as each other or something.

But yeah, I had envisioned incense sticks made with bloodweed and vampyre dust or something like that. Would have been cool and thematically appropriate.

I never saw anyone suggest aspects, I thought that was just something Jagex came up with. I saw people suggesting things like potions and incense sticks, or something akin to totems/monolith in War's Retreat.

Ideal number of cities: 3-6 (according to the Internet) vs. 25 (according to AI Casimir) by Zmoodyyy in civ5

[–]hj17 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Because more cities = higher science costs for tech. Growing those cities big enough can counter that penalty, but there aren't unlimited sources of happiness available, so you must choose if you want to devote your happiness to countering the unhappiness from number of cities, or from your population.

Many small cities is generally worse for your empire's science than having just a few cities and growing them as large as possible.

It's also generally more punishing on your gold per turn, and will probably be harder to defend all of them, while simultaneously angering all the AI players because most of them see any unsettled land anywhere in the world as theirs by right and your settlements are an unwelcome intrusion even though they're half a continent away.

Stormcloaks, is this your "goat"? by IKoKaI in skyrim

[–]hj17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, having no weapons or armor and your hands being bound, not to mention not knowing you're the Dragonborn yet (or even being aware that dragons have returned), are all pretty important parts of the situation. Ones that usually don't remain true for the rest of the dragon attacks in the game. So it's hard to call it the same situation.

Why do so many players call Ling Xiaoyu by her family name? We don’t call Paul “Phoenix” all the time… by Main-Drag-4975 in Tekken

[–]hj17 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Might be related to the reason people used to call Hwoarang "Bob" prior to T6. They see a scary foreign word or name and decide they'd rather just not even try to pronounce/spell it.

And to be fair they often get it wrong when they do try anyway. I can recall hearing a lot of British guys in particular pronounce it "Zaoyu"

I've definitely heard people calling him Craig.

And lots of people call Drag Sergei too, though in his case I suspect it's only because they want to take the opportunity to pronounce it Sir Gay.

One of the cave goblin miners still uses the original chathead model from 2005 by AlphaWolver in runescape

Chill, it's not that big a deal. I can think of tons of graphical inconsistencies that would be 100x more noticeable and impactful to update than this one is.

Just think of it as an easter egg.

It's nostalgic. Besides, it's not something you'd likely ever see without going out of your way to make it happen, so it's fine.
