This has nothing to do with pollution. They simply can't afford the raising costs, and even if they could they predict a shortage bad enough to wreck things.

This type of conference is all about what actually needs to be done, which or even if any of the participants can set up manufacturing to supply the needed hardware for the transition, or where they can source that hardware reliably.

It's desperation about the future loss of the ability to generate power, that has nothing to do with pollution.

Comment I had a Motorola battery swell up. (Score 1) 15

It swelled so fast it pushed the screen off the case, which turned out to be a help for removing said screen to install the replacement battery.

The real problem isn't that the battery swelled up - it is the fact that no one would take the battery for recycling because it was now worse than toxic waste. The official method cost nearly one third of a new phone or at least twice the new battery. It wound up quietly placed in the self-serve battery recycling kiosk in a random hardware store.

Here's the thing, my next phone will probably be another Motorola - except for the battery it is still fine after 6 years.

Comment How fast does anyone really need something? (Score 0) 86

If you actually plan your life out for one week ahead instead of one day or minute even 'only' a weekly delivery would be plenty fast. We need to move to weekly deliveries not daily drops (pun absolutely intended). Think of the environment, but you obviously don't.

Comment Why didn't AI catch this? (Score 1) 18

Seriously, this is exactly what AI puppets claim it is perfectly situated to catch.

Also any system that auto-updates from random parts of the world will always be vulnerable to this. Distributed is great until it isn't because you have to trust every part of the system - which is not possible.
