Hi there! My name is Robin Moisson and I'm the solo founder of Translate a Book with AI. I've been a professional software engineer for over a decade, with a passion for books, using AI for good, and meaningful work.
I live in France with my partner - a published author - and I spend most of my days building and improving this platform to help authors and publishers around the world.
I started building the platform out of frustration with the available translation options. I was trying to translate an old meditation book to gift my father for his 60th birthday. He's a self-published author and I wanted an excellent translation. But the machine translation tools I found were complex to use and produced poor results, while the traditional translation services were very expensive, slow, and took a lot of work finding and communicating with translators.
I knew about ChatGPT before the chat version became public: I closely follow the AI space and I knew AI was about to get *extremely* good. I was sure I could build a service that would be both easy to use and produce near publication-grade translations. I was blown away by the results I got in my first prototype!
The AI was making intelligent stylistic choices, understanding content and tone, as well as cultural references. Author friends agreed and were blown away as well - they had no idea this was possible. I had to let more people use translateabook.com.
Ever since then I've been working on building a platform making high-quality translation accessible to more and more authors and publishers. Though the platform has changed enormously since the early days, my North Star stays the same: a service that's both powerful and easy to use, and consistently produces great translation.
I've now been in touch with hundreds of authors all over the world. It's been a joy and an honor helping them share their work with new readers, making the platform more and more efficient and saving them a ton of time and resources in the process.
