After spending a few evenings poring over the #vt100 schematics I finally have a rudimentary understanding of how the video output works.
There are still lots of details to work out, such as the specific order and function of a bunch of signals, but now I understand the DMA path from main memory to video line buffer and roughly from there to the character ROM and onto the electron beam.
This is not very complex but this is a first for me, and my brain really enjoys this kind of puzzle.

Jeg fandt egentlig et #pindsvin i dag, men nu gjorde jeg ikke alligevel. Buuuhh.
I saw the first #hedgehog of the year today, and I almost hurt it by accident. It was hiding in a pile of leaves behind a plate leaning against my garage, and when I moved the plate I wanted to get rid of the leaves I suddenly noticed spikes!
It stayed in the pile of leaves despite me working and regularly passing by in the narrow passage. Later I carefully picked it up and placed it nearby, and when I checked again after dinner it was gone, so hopefully it found a new spot.
Teknisk set kunne vi nok have fundet nogle druer i drivhuset, men det er blevet misligholdt i et par år, så det ligner efterhånden noget fra Jumanji.
I had one sleeve left to do, for the upper plate, and it had to be bigger so an HDMI and a power cable (figure 8 style plug) could go through, so I increased the cylinder diameter to 28 mm with an internal hole of 25 mm.
Also, to avoid drilling into the frame again I moved the hole further from the side.
Yeah, you guessed it.
Oh right, but this is #DIY, so nothing ever goes to plan.
Of course the box shelf is constructed from hollow sides. The low weight was a dead giveaway but I didn't think about it at all.
The sides are a hollow frame cladded with thin MDF or whatever plates that in no way I could drill and counterbore anything into, and of course my drill wasn't sharp enough to get a clean cut, and of course I also hit the edge of the frame so my drill wandered a bit.
Well, now my sleeves have a collar.
"Act, discover, adapt, regret, give up, try again, overcome, live with it" as the old saying goes.
Now, with a 3D printer you'll never run out of projects, so I checked the filament library and found some PLA in a colour that is a very close match to the shelves.
I wanted a counterbored sleeve, so I quickly designed one in #FreeCAD that would be easy to print and install:
Just drill a small pilot hole through the wall, then use a forstner drill to first drill the large counterbore hole 3 mm deep from both sides, and finally drill the actual through-hole using a smaller forstner drill.
A bit of plywood was used as a test piece, and it looked good, so I proceeded to drill the actual holes.
Edit: countersunk -> counterbored
No well-prepared #DIY project survives the first encounter with reality.
We've got a small spot upstairs where an old TV is used for our Nintendo Switch. For a long time the TV just stood on a small step stool (Temporarily™, of course), but the other day I decided it'd been long enough¹ and we should make this look better.
IKEA has these Eket shelves that seemed suitable, so I hung two next to eachother. Now the real project was running wires between them.
¹ Yes, I needed the step stool because the smoke alarm battery needed replacing.
Today we went canoeing, so Charlie had his first ever sailing experience.
Let's just say he's got a lot to learn when it comes to finer details of canoeing such as the advantage of a low centre of gravity, staying in the middle, and generally not moving about all the time. Also, did you guys know you cannot walk on an algae patch???
Morning #fishing trip with the 13yo who got their first ever seatrout (salmo trutta forma trutta).

Well, someone has learned to walk down the basement stairs, so there is really no safe haven at home anymore.
After a few weeks of rather warm weather, Charlie enjoys the cool basement.
Not fully a bot. Honestly.
