There are at least 4 different setlists for this tour, & one could (very roughly) divide their huge catalog of music by decade to get a better understanding of the band.
I'd say the landmark albums that define major style changes of an era are:
Permanent Waves
Roll the Bones
Vapor Trails
& The albums following each of those solidify the feeling of the era:
Moving Pictures
Counterparts
Snakes & Arrows

#2112 & Hemispheres are probably the best references for early Rush, & Grace Under Pressure is perhaps their darkest album (it certainly holds special significance for me in many ways) & maybe the most popular of the "keyboard era".

In addition to the music, I'd suggest having a good look over the album art & tourbooks, which will help you get a better understanding of the extensive visuals in the show (& the gags...)

I am that rare beast, a man whose wife is a #Rush fan. So we have tickets for their show in Amsterdam next year, but I don't know their work all that well. Since the tickets cost an arm and a leg, I don't want to go in entirely unprepared; I'll get more out of it if I know what I'm listening to. So this week will be Rush week, where I will at least listen to a bunch of their live albums.

Rush Fifty Something concert was amaze, amaze, amaze. Anika Niles was superb. The only thing better than my first Rush concert is getting to see them again two months in Boston.

A #GreatDrummer can push a band to sublime places. But it's never all push. It's push and pull in context. It's nuance in the pocket. It's feel. #AnikaNilles has all these things. 🧬 Everyone alive today carries DNA from a mysterious "ghost" ancestor — an unknown archaic human species that no fossil record has ever captured.

Using a new method called TRACE, scientists analyzed 503 modern genomes and found that 0.5-1% of our DNA comes from an unidentified hominin lineage that split from us over 800,000 years ago.

This ghost lineage interbred with early Homo sapiens in Africa before the out-of-Africa migration. Unlike Neanderthal and Denisovan DNA, which is mostly absent from speech-related gene regions, the ghost DNA appears even in those areas.

The discovery also revealed an even older "super-archaic" lineage — one that branched off nearly 1.8 million years ago and reached us indirectly through Denisovans.

We carry the genetic legacy of ancestors we never knew existed.
