Our Mission, Vision, Values and Team

Acknowledgement

We acknowledge that the land on which we operate is the traditional unceded territory of the Mi’kmaq Peoples. This territory is covered by the “Treaties of Peace and Friendship” which Mi’kmaq Peoples first signed with the British Crown in 1725. The treaties did not deal with surrender of lands and resources but in fact recognized Mi’kmaq title and established the rules for what was to be an ongoing relationship between nations. We recognize that true reconciliation is an ongoing process. Acknowledging territory and First Peoples should take place within the larger context of genuine and ongoing work to forge real understanding, and to challenge the legacies of colonialism.

CreativePEI is the sector council working on behalf of Prince Edward Island’s arts, culture and creative professionals in collaboration with PEI’s creative industry associations. CreativePEI organizes information, networking, training, advocacy, collective action and shared services.

CreativePEI was founded in 2006 as PEI Cultural Human Resources Sector Council Inc. which remains our legal name.

CreativePEI is the sector catalyst and connector that empowers Prince Edward Island’s arts, culture and creative professionals to improve their outcomes and incomes.

The Action Plan consists of ten focused, high impact initiatives designed to significantly advance our two key strategic goals.

Each initiative consists of discreet, actionable projects. Each project falls within one of CreativePEI’s five areas of activity: Research, Communication, Training, Services and Events.

In 2006, CreativePEI was formed by six volunteers known as the leadership committee. Two decades later, our Board of Directors continue this legacy by volunteering their time and expertise to the growth and nourishment of the arts sector on PEI.

Chair, Community Engaged Arts

Megan Stewart

she/her

Megan Stewart (she/her) is a theatre artist based in Epekwitk / Prince Edward Island. As a director, producer, dramaturge, and occasional performer, she seeks out projects that are intrinsically collaborative, interdisciplinary, and rooted in specific community contexts.

Megan is the artistic director of River Clyde Arts, which produces a season of outdoor, community-engaged theatre and arts events in New Glasgow, PEI. Its flagship project is The River Clyde Pageant, which she co-founded with Ker Wells in 2016 and continues to co-direct each summer with Ker’s sister Jane Wells.

Dedicated to fostering spaces for unconventional theatre and art to thrive on PEI, Megan has established celebrated festivals and performance events, including the March of the Crows for Art in the Open, and the Island Fringe Festival.

Trevor Corkum

he/him

Trevor Corkum (he/him) is a writer, journalist, editor, and consultant whose debut novel is forthcoming with Knopf Canada. His fiction, essays, journalism and reviews have appeared widely across Canada and internationally and he is the Atlantic Canadian correspondent for The Walrus and a columnist at 49thShelf. Trevor’s story “Lost Boys” was shortlisted for the 2023 Commonwealth Short Story Prize and his writing has been nominated for the Journey Prize, National Magazine Award for Fiction, and the CBC Short Story and Nonfiction Prizes. Trevor grew up in PEI and has lived across Canada and in Europe, but is happy to be back on Epekwitk, where he is a co-proprietor of The Hideout, which offers a writer-in-residence program and self-directed residencies for Canadian and international writers.

Sharlene Kelly

Sharlene is a PEI-based film producer, who produced her first feature THE SNAKE in 2025, through the Telefilm Talent to Watch program. THE SNAKE had its World Premiere at SXSW in March 2026 and will have it's Canadian premiere this September. Sharlene is an alumna of the Whistler Film Festival, having successfully completed the WFF/PEI Accelerator Program for producers in June 2024. She is Board Chair of ANCHOR FEST (formerly the Charlottetown Film Festival), and is a board member of FilmPEI, CreativePEI and Women in Film & Television Atlantic.

Nicolás Romero Dada

Born with Bilateral Atresia and Microtia, a rare hearing disability and gaining his hearing through reconstructive surgeries, Nico’s musical journey is defined by absolute resilience, artistry, and heart. A graduate of Holland College's School of Performing Arts, he is a versatile, genre-spanning guitarist whose talent earned him a Music PEI 2026 Musician of the Year nomination. Nico is a prominent staple of the Island’s music ecosystem, playing major festivals like CBMF, Street Feast, Moonlight Bazaar, and performing in bands like Yokohomies, Lefunk, The Soosh, and backing diverse local talent. Deeply embedded in the PEI creative community, he is a passionate photographer and dedicated mentor who consistently volunteers his time to help emerging and student musicians launch their careers.

Ryan Hale

he/him

20+ years experience in the video game industry, starting in Quality Assurance and currently the Product Director at Other Ocean Group Canada. Held a number of positions within the industry, worked on hundreds of games, created original intellectual properties from scratch and self-published 10 games (working on 11, 12 and 13!). Previous board member of the Canadian Interactive Alliance, member of VideogamesPEI, and additional volunteer support for various programs that involve video games. Additional background in music for 30+ years, part of an ECMA nominated band, and more recently helping create a new theater production.

Krystal Dionne

Krystal Dionne (she/her) is a Regional Library Manager in Eastern Prince Edward Island and has spent the past 15 years in a range of roles with the PEI Public Library Service. She is passionate about connecting people with information, encouraging lifelong learning, and supporting innovative library services that help communities thrive.

Kate Sharpley

she/her

Educator, Artist, with a passion for supporting art makers & creating art. Her portfolio of work includes outdoor land art sculptures, (willow), mixed media art, video game artwork and animation, paintings, & illustrations for children’s books. Current art practice is spilt between a new outdoor series of sculptures and book illustrations. She volunteers her time supporting Stratford recreation, arts and culture team. Kate is part of the School of Visual Arts faculty at Holland College, with her role as Learning manager for Fundamental Arts, a 1 year certificate arts program, with close ties to NASCAD BFA program.

Museums and Heritage

Jane Affleck

she/her or they/them

Jane Affleck has a background in the visual arts (BFA 1995) and English literature (MA in Creative Writing & English, 2007). Jane also completed a Ph.D. in Cultural Studies (2018), which involved research on the history of colonization and present-day decolonization movements — in particular, how contemporary Indigenous art can challenge traditional museum representation of Indigenous peoples. Jane has been a member of the Board of Governors for the PEI Museum and Heritage Foundation since 2022. Aside from working as a policy analyst for the Native Council, Jane is also a visual artist and writer. In 2025, Jane received a grant from Innovation PEI to support a writing residency in Iceland, where she completed the first draft of a climate-fiction novel.

Arlene MacAusland

she/her

Arlene MacAusland serves on the Creative PEI Board of Directors, representing the craft sector. She has been a Professional Member of the PEI Crafts Council since 2003 and creates contemporary fibre-based work under the name Twisted Knickers. Arlene has also worked in an administrative role with the Council since 2018, bringing both artistic and organizational experience to her support of Prince Edward Island's craft community.
