What Authors Say About Our Editing

Book Editing Reviews from Authors

Every manuscript represents months, and often years, of work. Understandably, inviting an editor into that process requires trust. Below you’ll find book editing reviews from authors I’ve worked with, in their own words.

My name is Dianne Pearce. For more than twenty years, I’ve had the privilege of helping authors shape their stories, strengthen their writing, and prepare their manuscripts for publication. Every manuscript is different because every author is different.

I’ve been fortunate to work across a wide range of genres, from literary fiction and fantasy to memoir, horror, science fiction, romance, poetry, and nonfiction. My goal is never to change an author’s voice or make every book sound the same. Instead, I strive to understand the story each writer is trying to tell and help them tell it as clearly, effectively, and authentically as possible.

Nothing means more to me than hearing that an author felt understood, encouraged, and better equipped to continue writing by the end of our editing collaboration.

To everyone who has trusted me with a manuscript, thank you.

Here are a few of their words I am able to share with you.

She Understood My Story

Every story has its own voice, purpose, and audience. Before suggesting changes, I believe it’s important to understand what an author is trying to accomplish. My job isn’t to rewrite your book; it’s to help you write the strongest version of your book.

“Dianne has an exceptional ability to understand the essence of the story, providing feedback that not only improved its readability but also enhanced its depth and impact.”

“She was always respectful of my voice as an author, ensuring that revisions and suggestions were in harmony with the original tone and intent of the work.”

“I believe she understood the story and message that I was trying to get across and helped me craft it in a better way.”

“Dianne completely understands the material and influences. Her notes are extremely helpful, and her editing makes the book so much better.”

“She didn’t try to simplify the narrative or force it to appeal to a mass audience, which aligned perfectly with my own vision.”

“Dianne tries to understand the story that you, the writer, are telling and suggests revisions that hold true to the author’s original vision.”

She Helped Me Become a Better Writer

One of the most rewarding parts of editing is hearing that an author leaves the experience feeling more confident than when they began. Whenever possible, I explain why I’m making a suggestion, because my hope is that every project strengthens not only the manuscript, but also the writer.

“It was like a personalized grammar class to permanently improve my writing moving forward.”

“I feel like I’m also getting a masterclass in writing.”

“She opened my eyes to tips and tools that years of English class never taught me.”

“Dianne explained every single edit she suggested to help me understand and improve my story.”

“I’ve learned so much from her comments and edits.”

“Her comments shed new light on my work and helped me strengthen it overall.”

“She didn’t just edit. Dianne clearly explained grammatical and publishing conventions that I needed coaching on.”

“I feel like I learned things as a writer thanks to this collaboration.”

She Respected My Voice

Editing should never erase an author’s personality. My goal is always to preserve the voice that makes a manuscript unique while strengthening clarity, consistency, pacing, and style.

“Dianne improved clarity where necessary, but never more.”

“When Dianne began working on my novel and providing feedback while helping me retain my voice, it truly felt like a collaboration years in the making.”

“She never imposes changes, but instead guides you toward stronger and more natural choices.”

“Her comments are thoughtful, respectful, and often open up new ways of seeing the text.”

“Dianne’s corrections were useful in improving the book while remaining open-minded about the material.”

“She highlighted the manuscript’s strengths, which was vital for maintaining motivation during the early stages.”

Her Comments Were Thoughtful, Encouraging, and Honest

Writing can feel vulnerable. I believe good editing should be honest without being discouraging, detailed without being overwhelming, and encouraging without sacrificing accuracy.

“She was transparent and thoughtful with every batch she returned, offering honest feedback while remaining receptive to my revisions.”

“As this was the first book I’d ever written, it meant a great deal to have someone so reliable and supportive throughout the entire process.”

“Her feedback was always informative and full of praise. She was never too harsh or critical.”

“Dianne offered brilliant insights, gentle corrections, and copious encouragement.”

“Her advice was carefully given but opened pathways I didn’t know existed.”

“I always felt my work was in expert hands.”

“Dianne truly cares that her clients succeed.”

I’m Honored That Authors Return

One of the greatest compliments an editor can receive is the opportunity to work with an author repeatedly. Many of my clients return for their second, third, and even fourth manuscripts. Watching writers grow over multiple books has been one of the greatest joys of my career, and several of those books can be found in our portfolio.

“I’ve worked with Dianne twice now, and I can’t imagine a better editor for me.”

“This is my third book with Dianne, and as always she completely understands the material.”

“I’ve hired Dianne several times and feel so fortunate to have had the opportunity to work with her.”

“I immediately requested to work with her again.”

“This was only my first time working with her, but because I am planning a novel series, I will definitely be hiring Dianne again.”

“I absolutely love working with her and look forward to future projects.”

“I plan to work with Dianne again and put my manuscripts in her hands for as long as I can.”

Beyond the Edit

“I honestly couldn’t have asked for a better editor.”

“Five stars isn’t enough. She deserves ten.”

“If you’re lucky enough to work with her, you won’t ever want to work with anyone else.”

“I highly recommend Dianne to authors at all skill levels working on any type of writing project.”

“She exceeded every expectation I had.”

Thank You!

book editing reviews thanks

Every one of these comments represents a manuscript that someone trusted me to read.

I never take that trust lightly.

All quotes are drawn from author feedback after completed projects and have been trimmed for length. Some details were removed at clients’ request.

Whether you’re publishing your first novel, polishing your tenth, or writing poetry, memoir, speculative fiction, literary fiction, or something that refuses to fit neatly into a genre, my goal is always the same: to help you tell the story only you can tell.

If you’re considering working together, I’d be honored to learn more about your project.

Let’s talk about your book.

You don’t need a finished draft or a clear sense of what kind of editing you need. Just tell me a little about what you’re working on and where you are with it. I’ll read it over and write back with some honest thoughts on what your book might need.

I've received your message!

Thanks for your interest in working with me. I’ll read what you’ve sent and write back within a few days with some honest thoughts on what your book might need. If it’s easier to talk it through, I can also set up a call. Best- Dianne
