Is GemCRM really free? What’s the catch?
Yes — the free version has no subscriber cap, no expiry, and no credit card required. Contact management, unlimited campaigns, drag-and-drop builder, A/B testing, open/click tracking, forms, and multi-platform sync are all permanently free. The only cost is your own SMTP service — that’s true of every email platform. Amazon SES costs ~$0.10 per 1,000 emails.
How is GemCRM different from FluentCRM?
Both are self-hosted WordPress CRM plugins. GemCRM goes further with: (1) built-in SMS and WhatsApp marketing across 5 providers — FluentCRM announced SMS on their 2026 roadmap but it is not yet shipped; (2) a visual Kanban sales pipeline with tasks, notes, and activity log; (3) native zero-setup integration with StoreEngine and Academy LMS; (4) abandoned cart recovery built in.
Do I need to pay for sending emails?
GemCRM adds zero per-email charges. You connect your own SMTP — this is true for every self-hosted email tool. We recommend Amazon SES (~$0.10/1,000 emails), Mailgun, or SendGrid. A list of 10,000 contacts sending 4 emails/month costs roughly $4–5/month on SES.
Will it slow down my WordPress site?
GemCRM is designed to be lightweight. Campaigns queue and send in the background using Action Scheduler — the same background processing used by WooCommerce. The dashboard doesn’t add any frontend page-load overhead. It requires PHP 7.4+ and WordPress 6.8+.
Does it work with WooCommerce and my LMS?
Yes. WooCommerce customers sync automatically — no setup, no webhook config. The same applies for Academy LMS, Tutor LMS, LifterLMS, Easy Digital Downloads, FluentCart, and WP Fusion. You can also import contacts from Mailchimp, ActiveCampaign, ConvertKit, Drip, or MailerLite via CSV.
Is my contact data GDPR compliant?
GemCRM is built on the WordPress Privacy API — your data stays on your server, never on a third-party platform. SMS and WhatsApp opt-out suppression survives contact deletion, so opt-outs are respected even if a contact is re-imported. Consent timestamps are recorded per-contact at the database level.
When should I upgrade to Pro?
