This is also affecting how readers perceive book covers made (especially lazily) with AI.
They assume if you can do that to your book, they can't trust the quality of your work.
One fun fact about me: If I don't like the artwork/logo of a piece of media, I skip it lol. If you're not serious about the presentation, I most likely won't bother discovering what's underneath.
Do people still have to design their portfolio themselves? How about using Behance, or even a website that allows you upload your works or even creating a website dedicated for your works ?
