Reaseheath College Accessibility Statement

This accessibility statement applies to the www.reaseheath.ac.uk website, which is run by Reaseheath College and University Centre.

Reaseheath College and University Centre is committed to providing an inclusive digital experience for all users so that everyone can access information about our courses, services and facilities. We want as many people as possible to be able to use this website.

For example, that means you should be able to:

  • change colours, contrast levels and fonts using browser or device settings
  • zoom in up to 300% without the text splitting off the screen
  • navigate most of the website using a keyboard
  • access content using assistive technologies, such as speech recognition software and screen readers

How accessible this website is

We know some parts of this website may not be fully accessible. For example:

  • some older PDF documents may not be fully accessible to screen reader software
  • some images or graphics may not always include suitable alternative text
  • some page structures may not be fully optimised for screen reader navigation
  • some colour combinations may offer insufficient colour contrast
  • some third-party systems or embedded content may not be fully accessible
  • some links or buttons may not be clearly labelled
  • some form fields may not be correctly labelled for assistive technologies

We recognise that these issues may affect those who rely on assistive technologies, such as screen readers or keyboard navigation. We are working to improve these areas as much as possible.

We are also currently in the process of developing a new site designed to improve user experience and meet modern accessibility standards. Accessibility testing and compliance checks will form an integral part of the design and development process for the new website from the outset. The new website will be designed to meet WCAG 2.2 AA standards through accessible design, content and code.

We are also improving internal guidance for staff who publish content online to help ensure new pages, documents and media are created with accessibility in mind.

Accessibility tools on our website

To help visitors customise their browsing experience, this website includes the AccessiBe widget. This appears on all pages and enables users to customise how content is displayed and make other accessibility adjustments, such as colour contrast, text size and cursor control.

The AccessiBe plugin, which can be found by clicking the icon in the bottom right-hand corner, will automatically appear unless the user has disabled the feature. However, while AccessiBe is intended to support users with different access needs, we understand it is not a substitute for fixing underlying accessibility issues.

Technical information about this website’s accessibility

Reaseheath College and University Centre is committed to making its website accessible, in accordance with the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) (No. 2) Accessibility Regulations 2018.

Compliance status

The website has been reviewed as part of the Government Digital Service accessibility monitoring programme. This assessment identified several accessibility issues that mean parts of the website do not fully meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 AA standard.

This website is therefore partially compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 AA standard, due to the non-compliances listed below.

Non-accessible content

The content listed below is non-accessible for the following reasons.

  • Some images and graphics may not have appropriate alternative text
  • Some PDF documents published may not be fully accessible to screen reader software
  • Some embedded third-party content (for example external applications or services) may not meet accessibility standards
  • some pages may have colour contrast issues
  • some form labels and page structure may have issues that affect screen reader users

We are reviewing these issues and working to address them where possible.

Content that is not within the scope of the accessibility regulations

The following content may be exempt from the regulations:

  • PDFs or other documents published before 23rd September 2018 if they are not essential to providing our services
  • third-party content that is not funded, developed or controlled by Reaseheath College and University Centre

What we’re doing to improve accessibility

We are committed to improving the accessibility of our website. This includes:

  • Reviewing and updating alt text for all images
  • Ensuring new PDFs are accessible
  • Updating guidance and training for staff
  • New site development
  • Conducting regular accessibility reviews

Disproportionate burden

In some cases, updating older documents or third-party content, or additional technical development of the website, to fully meet accessibility standards may represent a disproportionate burden.

Due to the planned redevelopment and replacement of the website, it would represent a disproportionate burden, in terms of time and resource, to fully remediate all of the accessibility issues identified in the monitoring report on the existing platform.

However, we are committed to:

  • ensuring all new content added to the current website follows accessibility good practice where possible
  • improving the accessibility of documents and content published going forward
  • prioritising accessibility improvements within the new website development project
  • providing accessible alternatives on request where information on this website cannot be accessed
