I wish this was an issue just for the RE community, people who don't play the games or are too deep into their own head cannons do that to every single character now, no matter the franchise or genre.

about half of y’all have an unhealthy habit of projecting yourselves onto re characters to the point of not seeing them outside of what you’ve created in your own head, resulting in mischaracterization & a lack of ability to interpret their interpersonal relationships.

The RE series really makes me go full old man with the "back in my day" shit. Been utterly disappointed at Requiem with it's lazy "best hits" from previous games approach. Hunk being a washed Krauser fight and the final Boss being wall of flesh Nemesis is such a disrespect.
