As trade unionists, we know what it takes to win at the negotiating table against a powerful counterpart. It takes strength, clarity, unity. It means knowing your bottom line, understanding your leverage and potentially using it. Sometimes it means walking away from a bad deal.

We mourn the loss of Jeff Sloychuk, a longtime advocate and leader in the NDP and Canada’s labour movement. His commitment to working people helped shape the better future we continue to fight for today. My deepest condolences to his family, friends and loved ones.

Yesterday, we lost a great friend of the labour movement, Geraldine McGuire. Through her work as @cupenat’s secretary-treasurer and former CUPE BC president, she fought tirelessly for workers, equality and justice. Her leadership and solidarity will be deeply missed.

Collective bargaining works. Congratulations to CUPE WestJet flight attendants on their tentative agreement. Unpaid work won’t fly.

Anti-scab law exists to protect workers’ right to strike and ensure fair collective bargaining. The Bank must stop using scab labour, comply with the rulings and return to the bargaining table. Full statement and letter: canadianlabour.ca/statement-from… #canlab
