When Mayor-elect Mamdani takes office, he will control over 6,300 miles of streets throughout the five boroughs. Reducing car dependence is one of the best ways to reduce costs for New Yorkers. Owning a car costs nearly $9,000 annually, while taking transit costs just $1,500.

It has been a deadly few weeks on our streets. Our hearts are with Jiayi Zheng’s family and loved ones as they mourn an unimaginable loss in Sunset Park.

Over the weekend, Jiayi Zheng was killed while crossing 3rd Avenue after an overnight shift at the hospital. While she's far from the first person to die on this deadly street, she can be the last — & we're counting on the Mamdani administration to finish the stalled redesign.

Remember this banner drop? We demanded a safer Ashland Place, and now the final block is getting a protected bike lane! Celebrate the safer connections with us at tomorrow's ribbon-cutting at 10 a.m. at Ashland Place and Lafayette Avenue.

Nine people were killed in hit-and-run crashes in August alone. Cyclist deaths are up 70% from this time last year, and 60 pedestrians have been killed so far this year. We have the tools to prevent this carnage. What we need is the political will to use them.
