productization of apps + “don’t make me think” ux culture obliterated customization, reducing opportunity for playful or incidental coding now usually a premium/dev feature but playgrounds like @CodePen @glitch @Codecademy emerged to fill the void creativity always finds a way

wow, really makes me think about the rigidity of social media today. interesting that a lot your responses are listing coding programs, whereas these platforms were places where code/design was encouraged as a means to self expression, rather than an explicit tool to code/design

many internet gworls of my generation got into coding through livejournal, neopets, myspace, tumblr, and other community spaces that valued creativity + self-expression what apps today offer a direct entry point / inspire curiosity around using technology to be creative?

AHHHH NOW @Codecademy HAS BEEN ACQUIRED 👏🏻👏🏻 i was employee #2 + og designer (started same day as @amasad) early team was extremely talented, founding era 2011-2012 was WILD ride. 10 years later, this! huge congrats @zsims @ryanbubinski here's a throwback, this was our LIFE 💀
