    Yesterday, 174 new fires were reported nationwide, including 12 new large fires. Firefighters are currently working to contain 86 large fires, with 22,085 firefighters & support personnel working nationwide. Extreme fire behavior is reported in multiple geographic areas.

    Our priority is safety. When wildfire starts, the safety of firefighters and the public is always our first priority. We respond to every wildfire quickly with the goal of reducing harm to people, homes, infrastructure and natural and cultural resources. (courtesy photo.)

    Faces of the Backbone Fire. The Backbone Incident on the @GPNF, WA has over 170 personnel helping to suppress the wildfire located near Packwood, WA. This includes all staff not just firefighters. Here are just a few individuals working to keep this incident safe and supported.

    Restoring a place after a wildfire isn’t just about rebuilding. On the @willametteNF, a once plain restroom now features a mural celebrating local wildlife & forests. Forest Service Rec Tech Brianna designed & painted the mural with help from fellow Rec Tech Anna.

    The Grasshopper & Austin fires in OR are getting some international support, with 52 personnel from Australia & New Zealand currently assigned – including 21 engine crew members. This marks the first time Australia & New Zealand have sent engine crews to the U.S.
