Why is the default download the Intel dmg instead of a universal dmg? Bizarre.

OK, I’m sorry, this was 100% my fault. I was still running the Intel version of VLC (because that’s what the VLC homepage still downloads by default). You have to NOT click "Download VLC" and instead use the arrow to select "macOS (Apple Silicon)". That version launches instant.
