- Missed the peak night of the Perseids? Don't worry! While August 12 to 13 is the official maximum peak, the Perseids are actually active for weeks. The debris trail left behind by Comet Swift-Tuttle is millions of kilometres wide. Photo: Samer Hobeika, RASC Montreal Centre
- The Perseids, one of the year's best meteor showers, will peak on the night of August 12 into the early morning of August 13. Best viewing is midnight to dawn, from a dark location away from city lights.
- On August 12, 2026, the Moon will pass between Earth and the Sun, producing a partial solar eclipse visible from much of Canada. At maximum eclipse, a portion of the solar disk will be obscured. Always observe the Sun only with ISO 12312-2 certified solar viewers.
