this is the failure mode nobody priced into their stack assumptions. Companies treat AI accounts as critical infrastructure, but the contractual setup is closer to a loyalty program the vendor can pull at any time

Every app says you can export your data, like that settles it. But an export is just a snapshot from the day you clicked, the real thing keeps living on their servers and stops when they decide.

Saw PromptPerfect is shutting down. Service ends Sep 1, accounts and data wiped Oct 1. Whatever you stored there leaves on a schedule the company picked. 'Saved to the cloud' and 'yours to keep' were never the same thing.

this week people learned their AI vendor can swap the model, read their prompts, and cut access in two weeks. the same has always been true of the cloud holding your files. ownership means you can still open it the day the company is gone.
