When I'm asked why OpenBSD is good and that I want to reply honestly, I have no argument.

From a technical point of view, I can't tell any strong benefits using OpenBSD, NetBSD or FreeBSD over Linux, although this doesn't mean they are bad.

It would be easy for me to be "cargo-culting" facts, being a "fanboy" or enumerating features that are exclusive to one (and they are rare, except if you are looking for the very very same feature!).

The truth is that what one OS will do better than an other, it will also do worse in another area.

It's important that we keep the BSD systems as relevant Linux alternatives: for software diversity, innovation and freedom of choice.

Good news everyone, I'm now working as a freelancer! :flan_hacker:

You can me for almost anything / / related, teaching, writing documentation or code.

The terms nowadays that would fit would be or , but it would be reductive to limit my services to these buzzwords in my opinion.

Lot of fun tonight! short wave listening after I moved to a elevated and isolated place for a better signal reception.

The (3 wheels bike) is awesome for this because I was able to use my laptop while sitting comfortably in my seat, water at hand.

I did meet NOBODY while staying at this place for 2 hours :D

I have been able to record radios in the 15, 12 and 10 meters bands and also in the 70cm band using a on Skywave distro (work out of the box)

Transmitting data over hue change in a light reflection was implemented in my weekly educational project

videos.coopix.eu/w/ctrYZun1KAA

You can test by yourself, however it is utterly slow (best case scenario is 4 bits / s which means 0.5 byte / s)

services.coopix.eu/airgap-soun

I added support for light based transfer (using a screen and a camera), but not in form of qrcodes because this is terrible for the eyes.

There are two methods: one using truchet tiles which are rotating patterns, and another one using colored mosaics :flan_dance: All based on data fountain :flan_stars:

If you want to try what looks like the state of the art, look at cimbar.org/ which can transfer up to 100 kB/s of data by displaying fast and horrible patterns :D

Shitty project of a the day, a file transfer tool over sound using fountain code

It's live on services.coopix.eu/airgap-soun (using wasm but you can use the rust binaries if you want)

The fountain code is an algorithm allowing an unidirectional transfer to pick up a broadcast at any moment, and once it received enough data, there is a domino effect with XORs allowing to build the data

Works fine on smartphones, laptops and desktop, some microphones/speakers might filter the range used which is inaudible for most people (there is little use to have speakers supporting this)

Looks like I posted this using the wrong account... :(

Expose only share links of a private service with caddy

In this blog post, you will learn how to use caddy to expose only the share links of a service reachable over a VPN, and reduce its attack surface

26.04 was released and all its derivatives as well. My Linux torrent seedbox is running at maximum speed, I downloaded all ISOs from the CDN to bootstrap all the torrents that are way too slow because there was a single source only.

Would you recommend a password manager at all for people that are not really familiar with computers or smartphones? I was thinking at pushing Bitwarden (because I have a vaultwarden instance), but this might be too complicated... Any experience?

openports.pl is back online :flan_sf:

There was a weird issue on the system, upgrades stopped working automatically due to a lot of .core files that filled the disk

Then, once I fixed this, there was a discrepancy between system perl and packages perl, I tried to rebuild things locally but gave up 😅

and it didn't repair itself with auto upgrades as I removed a package during my attempt at fixing by creating the packages locally :flan_hacker:

The video game Cassette Beasts is free on the epic game store for 23h, it should work on OpenBSD If I remember correctly

You can now buy OpenBSD wearable featuring his art :flan_cool:

I had the chance to ride a gen2 Hayabusa yesterday 🚀

The riding position was incredible, and it was surprisingly comfortable! :goose_helm:

It was not a recent one, it had 78000 km and it looked brand new :flan_ooh: it sounded nice with its 2 akrapović exhausts. I've been very cautious riding this by the way!

I want one now, it was so comfortable and fun :flan_stars:

Today I had the opportunity to ride a Kawasaki Ninja 1100 SX

It was a real blast, I never rode anything like this. It was so smooth, so subtle and yet it was powerful :flan_aww:

Shifting gear was super smooth, the engine was not loud which was surprising, I was able to ride in a city in 6th gear at 1500 rpm and it was still ready to accelerate without having to downshift.

🏍️ ✌️

Pretty cool, Clonezilla can clone a disk with LUKS partitions, can ask to open it to only save the content* and not the whole bit by bit partition, the backup image can be encrypted**

The cool thing is that clonezilla will recreate the LUKS partition on restore and ask for a password for it.

Perfect for full backups of encrypted workstation without wasting storage space.

* of course, depending on your threat model, this might disclose the real size of the partition when looking at the backup image :flan_shrug:

** if you do not trust / not trust enough the encryption done by clonezilla, store the backup on an encrypted volume :flan_thumbs:

IPFire_ as a Wi-Fi access point works really well. First time I even try WPA3 :flan_aww:
