Updates

CoolDock v2.2.2

Profiles move to another Mac, backups preview before they restore, and folders build from a right-click.

  • Export Profiles and Import Profiles move your profiles to another Mac, with a preview first. Your own profiles are never replaced.
  • Restore from Backup shows what a backup would change before you restore it.
  • Right-click an app for Add to Folder or New Folder with.
  • Show at Screen Edge While Hidden brings the dock back over a fullscreen app from the screen edge.
  • Todoist widgets: your next task or task list, tick tasks off, Quick Add new ones.
  • With Fantastical as the Calendar app, events open on their day and New Event opens in Fantastical.
  • Codex and Claude usage widgets can show the percent left and open their app on click.
  • Show When Above on a Temperature widget shows it only when your Mac runs hot.
  • AI Assistant lists ChatGPT (Codex). Now Playing shows Spotify album covers.
  • Replace the macOS Dock keeps zoomed and new windows above CoolDock.
  • Window previews switch between apps without a jump.
  • Focus, media and Dock Structure pop-ups open without a stutter.
  • The File Shelf keeps its tray icon with a file count. Folders side by side keep a gap.
  • The Date widget shows long months like October in full.
  • Setup panels no longer undo a change your AI assistant made while open.
  • Leaving a fullscreen app no longer leaves the dock invisible on the glass styles. The dock stays on all your desktops after fullscreen.
  • Pause a video that took over Now Playing and it goes back to Spotify or Music. Now Playing keeps the song and cover across profile switches.
  • Quitting CoolDock puts back the macOS Dock settings you had before.
  • Clicking an app whose windows are all minimized brings them back, even LINE.
  • If macOS gets stuck on a window, Reserve Dock Space recovers by itself.
  • File choosers like Choose App and Change Icon open on top and never freeze the dock.
  • Opening Widgets closes an open folder gallery.
  • A new AI assistant session no longer reopens CoolDock after you quit it.
  • The Fixed bottom layout card shows CoolDock above the macOS Dock. Dock widgets no longer show a blue focus box.
  • No crash when CoolDock checks its own windows or fullscreen apps.

CoolDock v2.2.1

Clicks and previews like the macOS Dock, album covers straight from Music, far less disk writing.

  • Clicking a running app brings back all its windows, like the macOS Dock.
  • Hover previews show every window, including other desktops. Cmd-H windows are labelled Hidden.
  • Window previews open without a stutter, even right after launch.
  • Now Playing shows album covers straight from Music.
  • The DataFast widget works with account tokens.
  • Far less disk writing, with size limits for caches, clipboard history and backups.
  • If you turned off running apps in your dock, they stay off after updating.
  • A full floating dock stays inside the screen.
  • Clicks next to a revealed auto-hide dock reach the apps underneath.
  • Docks on a display placed above your main one are no longer cut in half.
  • Switching to a profile without a File Shelf no longer empties your File Shelf.
  • Profiles and backups with Quick Toggles, Habit, Calendar, Reminders or Studio widgets restore again.
  • Folder Stack previews update as files change. The Trash widget keeps up without Full Disk Access.
  • Background Sounds play at the same volume and loop without a click.
  • No crash when apps open or quit, when no display is connected, or when a widget’s data is damaged.

CoolDock v2.2.0

CoolDock 2.2.0 opens browser windows in any profile, keeps new windows on the Space you are on, and matches the macOS Dock more closely for running apps and badges.

  • New Window with Profile: right-click Chrome, Brave, Edge, Vivaldi or Chromium and open a new window in any of your browser profiles.
  • New Window from the right-click menu, plus Safari’s New Private Window and Notion’s New Window, opens on the desktop you are on instead of jumping to another Space. Safari profiles work too, and CoolDock tells you why if a window cannot open.
  • Notion’s New Window opens a new window instead of a new page.
  • Menu-bar-only apps like Slack or WhatsApp no longer show a running dot after you close their windows, and badge counts clear when you quit an app.
  • Badges like “99+” or “1,234” show the right number, iPhone Mirroring labels no longer appear as a badge, and Safari web apps, Chrome web apps and Chrome Beta, Dev and Canary show up with your running apps.
  • An Always Visible CoolDock sits above an always-visible macOS Dock instead of overlapping it, and every dock comes back after the screensaver, screen lock or display sleep.
  • Remove buttons while customizing are smaller and no longer cover widget readouts, and Export Diagnostics includes recent update logs plus more detail about badges and running apps.

CoolDock v2.1.1

A stability release: CoolDock is lighter while idle, smoother to use, and steadier from launch to widgets.

  • CoolDock uses less CPU while idle, so it stays light in the background.
  • Hovering, revealing the dock and switching profiles feel smoother.
  • CoolDock no longer closes shortly after launch when App Volume is on.
  • Choosing where running apps go in Settings shows them in the dock right away.
  • Temperature widgets show readings on Macs with M5 chips.
  • With Liquid Glass, the profile switcher’s border no longer flickers when it appears.

MCP

CoolDock v2.1.0

CoolDock 2.1.0 adds an AI Assistant, drag-to-rearrange, Hide on Window Hover, and makes every display behave like its own dock.

  • AI Assistant: Claude, Codex, Cursor, VS Code and other MCP clients can read and configure CoolDock, from dock style to widget settings. It starts read-only until you choose Allow Changes.
  • Ask your assistant for a wallpaper by mood, style, color, time of day, season, or weather.
  • Hide on Window Hover fades the dock when a window overlaps it, per display, and clicks pass through while it is hidden.
  • Drag apps to rearrange, like the macOS Dock. Off by default; ⌘-drag still switches profiles.
  • Floating docks can sit under the menu bar, with a drag handle when you have several profiles.
  • With All Displays on, each display gets its own handle, profile switcher, hover, scrolling, text fields, and Reserve Dock Space.
  • CoolDock can reveal above the macOS Dock when the native Dock is always visible, and window previews stay visible with auto-hide.
  • Much lower CPU and memory use, refreshed widget library artwork, and Liquid Glass stays clear when CoolDock is not the active app.

CoolDock v2.0.9

A fixes release focused on folders, Finder, and widgets that keep your focus while you type.

  • Folder color and stack view stay consistent across drives, iCloud, tags, and custom icons. Subfolders preview like the macOS Dock, and Finder icon or tag changes refresh without restarting CoolDock.
  • Clicking Finder from the dock opens a new window again when every Finder window is closed.
  • Widget text focus stays put while you type, the Habit Tracker editor is no longer clipped, and flip clocks keep ticking after profile switches.
  • Profile swipes no longer hijack rearranges, and ⌘-dragging a running app between pinned tiles pins it at the drop spot.
  • The license activation screen scrolls, shows a clearer layout, and offers Check Again when a version is blocked.

CoolDock v2.0.8

A performance release: large docks respond faster and CoolDock is lighter during everyday work.

  • Each tile reacts to hover and clicks on its own, so big docks feel snappier.
  • Hidden docks slide in more smoothly from the screen edge.
  • The app launcher no longer steals focus between quick clicks.
  • Galleries, contacts, startup, and media use fewer resources.
  • Reserve Dock Space is more reliable, so windows leave room for the dock when they should.

CoolDock v2.0.7

Now Playing follows whatever is actually playing, and dense docks fit the screen.

  • Now Playing can follow any app on the system Now Playing surface, including Cider, with that player’s title, art, progress, and icon. Transport controls go to that player, and menus only show actions it supports. This is a beta feature.
  • YouTube playback follows the playing tab: play, pause, and seek hit that tab, and it stops cleanly if the tab closes.
  • Startup picks up Music already playing, player handoffs are cleaner, and custom players show up on Bluetooth and remote audio routes.
  • Show All and adaptive fit measure real widths, so dense docks scroll instead of spilling past the screen.
  • Top-edge click and hover targets line up with the visible bar, and Mail Refresh no longer gets stuck on an older cancelled read.

CoolDock v2.0.6

Smarter app menus, music service connections, and a dock that stays visible.

  • Right-click an app for actions it actually supports, such as New Message in mail clients or New Document in Pages, Numbers, and Keynote. Document apps also get an Open Recent submenu.
  • Now Playing can connect to Apple Music and Spotify from Privacy settings or the widget menu.
  • Automation Connect shows the real macOS permission dialog and reports clearly when access is denied.
  • Mail widgets keep unread counts even if a preview fails, and refreshes no longer get stuck.
  • The dock stays visible after Hide Others, notification badges and running dots are steadier, and Export Diagnostics includes more detail without private mail or calendar content.

CoolDock v2.0.5

This release makes CoolDock easier to recover and troubleshoot, with more AI widgets and fewer problems when moving between Spaces and displays.

  • Export Diagnostics saves a redacted support report locally. Nothing is uploaded, and it leaves out tokens, URLs, paths, account details, and personal content.
  • A new Layout menu provides presets and fixed positions. Reset Layout can bring back a stuck or missing floating dock without removing its widgets or profiles.
  • Added usage widgets for Cursor Personal, Antigravity, GLM / Z.ai, Grok, OpenCode, GitHub Copilot, Gemini API, and Perplexity.
  • Claude and Codex usage states are clearer, with better connection, refresh, and cooldown feedback.
  • Improved recovery after Spaces, Mission Control, fullscreen, Sidecar, and display identity changes. This release also fixes widget drag-and-drop, folder ordering, and stale running indicators.

CoolDock v2.0.3

This update is mostly about making CoolDock behave properly around windows and multiple displays.

  • The new Screens pane supports One Display, selected Attached Displays, or a copy of CoolDock on every display. Physical displays are remembered across sleep, reconnects, and clamshell mode.
  • Fixed layout now has six screen positions. Existing layouts carry over.
  • Weather widgets can use a custom city without Location Services.
  • Reserve Dock Space now reacts when windows open, zoom, tile, or restore. Also After Dragging controls whether manually placed windows move out of the dock area.
  • Fixed repeated Claude Keychain prompts, corrected Codex usage windows, and reduced duplicate weather requests.

CoolDock v2.0.2

Our first follow-up to CoolDock 2 focuses on the issues people hit during migration and onboarding.

  • Reduced the repeated Keychain prompts seen when moving from CoolDock 1 to CoolDock 2. CoolDock still reads only the items you approve, and your dock data stays on your Mac.
  • Added encrypted local-file storage under Settings → Privacy for Macs where the login Keychain cannot be unlocked reliably. Keychain remains the recommended option.
  • Permissions are now explained before macOS asks for them, and floating mode has a small handle that makes the dock easier to move.

Appit Release

CoolDock v2.0.0

CoolDock 1.9.4 was the bridge to 2.0.0: the first Appit Studio release after we acquired CoolDock from its original developer, Solt Wagner.

The cutover moved the app to Appit Studio’s licensing and update system. Solt worked with our team through the handover, and the things that mattered to existing users did not change:

  • Existing licenses stay valid. There is nothing to repurchase.
  • CoolDock data remains on your Mac, with no telemetry or usage analytics.
  • Support and future updates now come from Appit Studio.

Acquisition

CoolDock acquired by Appit Studio

CoolDock, the customizable Dock replacement for macOS, joins the Appit Studio family from its original developer, Solt Wagner.

  • Existing CoolDock licenses stay valid. Nothing to repurchase.
  • CoolDock 2.0.0 is the first Appit Studio release, moving the app to Appit Studio’s licensing and update system.
  • Appit Studio also makes DockFlow, ExtraDock, ExtraBar and Shiori.
