What these text tools do

FreeTextUtils is a set of 70 free text tools that cover the everyday jobs people do with words: measuring a draft, converting between formats, cleaning up messy pasted text, finding and replacing patterns, and generating placeholder content. Every tool is a single page with a short explanation, worked examples and answers to common questions, so you can see exactly how it behaves before you rely on the result.

Who the tools are for

Writers and editors use the counters and readability scores to hit a word limit or a target reading level. Students check essay length, sentence count and reading time before submitting. Developers reach for Base64, URL encoding, JSON and YAML conversion, hashing and regular expressions while debugging. Marketers measure keyword density, meta description length and URL slugs. Support and data teams clean pasted logs, CSV exports and duplicated lines.

Privacy: your text stays in the browser

Each tool runs as JavaScript inside the page. Nothing you paste is uploaded, logged or stored on a server, and there is no account to create. The only third-party code is advertising and cookie-less analytics, and advertising scripts load only after you accept the consent banner. Closing the tab discards your input.

A few terms in plain language

Word count
The number of word tokens in your text. Hyphenated words and contractions such as "don't" count once.
Character count
Every character in the text, usually reported twice: with spaces and without them.
Case conversion
Rewriting text in another capitalisation style, such as Title Case for headings or camelCase for code.
URL encoding
Replacing characters that are unsafe in a web address with percent escapes, so a query string survives intact.
Base64
A text-safe way to carry binary data in email, data URLs and API payloads. It is encoding, not encryption.
Regular expression
A pattern language for matching text, used by the find-and-replace and regex tester tools.

If you are unsure which tool fits your task, the guides explain the method behind each one and the mistakes worth avoiding.
