Frequently Asked Questions

NACCA is the National Aboriginal Capital Corporations Association, the national organization representing a network of over 50 Indigenous Financial Institutions (IFIs) dedicated to supporting Indigenous economic development and entrepreneurship across Canada.

IFIs are autonomous, Indigenous-controlled, community-based organizations that provide developmental lending, business financing, and support services to First Nations, Métis, and Inuit entrepreneurs and businesses in all provinces and territories.

IFIs offer business loans, non-repayable contributions, financial and management consulting, and business start-up and aftercare services. They fill critical financing gaps by supporting businesses that may not qualify for loans from conventional banks.

First Nations, Métis, and Inuit entrepreneurs and businesses across Canada can apply for funding and support from their local IFI. Eligibility criteria may vary depending on the specific program, service, and Institution.

You can find a list of IFIs and their main office locations on the NACCA website. Always check your local IFI’s website for the most up-to-date contact information and details about their services.

The Indigenous Growth Fund is a unique, Indigenous-led investment fund managed by NACCA, designed to provide IFIs with additional capital so they can offer more loans to Indigenous entrepreneurs.

Since their creation, IFIs have provided more than 53,000 loans valued at over $3.3 billion to First Nations, Métis, and Inuit-owned businesses, supporting economic growth and job creation across Canada.

NACCA enhances the capacity of IFIs through advocacy, training, research, and the delivery of programs such as the Indigenous Entrepreneurship Programs. NACCA also publishes national and regional results to highlight the network’s impact.

The NACCA Awards Gala is an annual event celebrating outstanding achievements in the Indigenous Financial Institution business community, recognizing excellence in entrepreneurship and leadership that takes place each year at the Indigenous Prosperity Forum.
