ReactOS Hackfests in 2026

The ReactOS project has held hackfests where we met up to develop the operating system. When core team members and contributors hold these multiday hackfests, we are able to progress not just the foundational code of the operating system, but also our project guidelines and rules. This year there were two hackfests. The first was during and after Chemnitzer Linux-Tage (CLT), from March 28th to April 4th. The second was in Orlando, Florida, from October 9th to October 19th.

Introducing ReactOS 0.4.16

We are pleased to announce the release of ReactOS 0.4.16! After a year and a half of development, we’re excited to showcase the improvements we’ve made between a new graphical installer; a unified bootcd and livecd image; video, audio, networking, and storage stack improvements; a new installation type; and third-party code syncs.

ReactOS Joins VCF Southwest for the First Time

Our first VCF Southwest booth I had no idea how unprepared I was until it was too late to back out. I had just set up my booth, with nothing to show off. Bracing for the worst, I reached out to strangers who quickly became friends. I expected to confidently show off ReactOS but instead found a resourceful and friendly community willing to help me when my plans fell apart.

30 years of ReactOS

Happy Birthday ReactOS! Today marks 30 years since the first commit to the ReactOS source tree. It’s been such a long journey that many of our contributors today, including myself, were not alive during this event. Yet our mission to deliver “your favorite Windows apps and drivers in an open-source environment you can trust” continues to bring people together. Let’s take a brief look at some of the high and low points throughout our history.
