Last week, the NSF–DOE Vera C. Rubin Observatory (@VRubinObs) released its first images using the largest digital camera ever built. To celebrate, the Duke Cosmology Group and space enthusiasts around the world hosted live watch parties. 🔭 @DukePhysics duke.is/g/87ya
Each image obtained from the Vera Rubin would require 400 HD TVs to be displayed in their entirety — even Duke’s Books Field scoreboard, shown here displaying one of the images would fall slightly short. (John West/Trinity Communications)
Professor Christopher Walter and other space enthusiasts braved the heat to watch the first images released by the Rubin Observatory on Duke’s scoreboard. (John West/Trinity Communications)
The first images from the Rubin Observatory, more than 25 years in the making, were livestreamed at Wallace Wade Stadium on June 23. (NSF–DOE VERA C. RUBIN OBSERVATORY)
