Sad to hear the news of the passing of Ian Witten. His book “Managing Gigabytes” was very instrumental in the development of our Terrier open source platform. We also used WEKA in many student projects in the old good times. RIP
I heard that Ian Witten passed away over the weekend. He was a titan of algorithms, ML, and of digital libraries. With Alistair Moffat and Tim Bell, he co-wrote Managing Gigabytes, which was hugely influential on the early architectures of Google. He was such a generous soul.
