    "Brain rot" was @OxUniPress’ 2024 Word of the Year, but the phrase first appeared nearly two centuries ago in Henry David Thoreau’s "Walden." This summer, UVA assistant professor Piers Gelly taught a course exploring whether Thoreau’s cure for brain rot remains relevant today.
