Why do open-weights models matter? Capabilities are in the wild. Time to fix as many vulnerabilities as we can and get the best defensive cyber tools into the hands of as many good actors as possible. The bad ones don’t have a cost, access, or guardrails problem.

AI does not magically generalize to new domains because models get smarter. It scales when you have the right measurement. @DaphneKoller’s essay on curing disease: measure the biology first, then the models have something to properly hill-climb on.

Low-cost near-frontier models are the labs' answer to cost-driven routing & multi-homing. Of the 3 reasons to shop around (cost, lock-in, control over your tacit knowledge), cost is the only one bundling can pre-empt. So that's the one they're killing.
