Administrative Note: The information above is provided by ammo manufacturers. Actual ballistics obtained with your firearm can vary considerably from advertised ballistics. Also, ballistics can vary from lot to lot with the same brand and type. When the manufacturer's ballistic data was unavailable, ballistics were calculated using a ballistics calculator.
6mm Creedmoor Trajectory Chart
Trajectory measures the bullet's flight path over a given distance. Shooters measure trajectory in inches of bullet drop, milliradians (MIL), or minute of angle (MOA).
A flat-shooting cartridge is ideal for long-range shooting because it requires fewer adjustments to compensate for bullet drop. A flat trajectory also means the cartridge will be more forgiving of minute ranging mistakes. The 6mm Creedmoor is known for its flat shooting capabilities. A 105 grain bullet sighted in at 200 yards will only drop -38.3 inches at 500 yards.
Here is a sample bullet drop chart to give you a general idea of the 6mm Creedmoor's trajectory.
Note: The above chart shows one 6mm Creedmoor load's performance. Actual ballistic performance varies depending on bullet weight, lot, barrel length, and environmental conditions.
6mm Creedmoor Velocity
Muzzle velocity is the rate at which a bullet exits the barrel. It is measured in feet per second (fps). Generally, longer barrels produce higher muzzle velocities, as their extra length gives exploding propellant more time to exert its energy against the base of the projectile, but other factors are significant.
We can expect 6mm Creedmoor muzzle velocities to vary from about 2,960 fps to 3,300 fps, depending on bullet weight and barrel length. The 6mm Creedmoor does an excellent job of maintaining high velocities downrange.
6mm Creedmoor Kinetic Energy
Muzzle energy is the amount of force a bullet possesses the moment it leaves the barrel. It is measured in foot-pounds (ft-lbs). Heavier bullets tend to have higher muzzle energy, but lower velocity.
An 80 grain 6mm Creedmoor bullet gains 1,934 ft-lbs of muzzle energy and conserves 850 ft-lbs at 500 yards, whereas a 108 grain 6mm Creedmoor bullet gains 2,101 ft-lbs of muzzle energy and conserves 1,103 ft-lbs at 500 yards.
6mm Creedmoor Effective Range
The 6mm Creedmoor maxes out at about 500 yards for medium game like pronghorn and deer, but can be effective on varmints at farther distances. A skilled shooter may hit their target at 1,000 yards. Many 6mm Creedmoor loads stay supersonic out to about 1,400 yards.
How Do 6mm Creedmoor Ballistics Compare to Other Rifle Cartridges?
