Congratulations and welcome to your new site.
- To start editing this site please log in. Your email address and password are the same as the ones used to create this website.
- After logging in, click the Edit link at the end of this post to edit this text. This is your site. You can change almost everything about it, including its name, appearance, membership and bulletin features. The Prefs command in the Editors Only menu is the place to start.
- This is a fully functional Manila site and with it you can do many things including building a website or information portal, hosting a discussion group, or managing an email list. Right now it's set up for weblogging. To create a new post, click the "News" command in the Editors Only menu at the top of this page. This will take you to the Pending News Items page.
- On that page, beneath the list of existing news items and the "Delete" button is a link called "Create a News Item". Click on that link.
- On the the new page, you will see space for a title and another space where you can enter a URL link if you want the title to link to another web page. You will also see a larger text entry box where you can enter your weblog post. Go ahead and write your post. When done, click on the "Create News Item" button
- If this weblog were set-up with categories, this is the page where you would assign the appropriate category. For your first couple of posts, let's go ahead and click on the "Post to Home Page" button.
- Your new post will appear at the top of your homepage -- this is your weblog's home page and the first page that visitors would see.
- Very useful to any weblogger is an RSS news aggregator. This can be used to subscribe to the RSS feeds generated by other weblogs and thousands of news publishing sites such as the the BBC and Yahoo News. You can explore this feature by clicking on the "Subscriptions" link and the "Aggregator" link at the top of this page. Note, by convention, RSS news aggregators update once per hour.
- Anyone wanting to subscribe to the RSS feed generated by this blog would need only to click on the orange XML button at left and copy the URL from that page into their news aggregator.
- For more information on Manila, visit the Getting Started page on the Manila-Newbies site. It provides an overview and introduction to the different kinds of projects you can do with Manila. The Manila-Newbies site is there to help you work with Manila and to learn from each other.
- Finally, please bookmark this page. This is your website. Be sure you can find it again.
