Accelerating Ideas That Transform Cardiovascular Care

Educate, Innovate, and Translate to Improve Heart & Vascular Health

The Center for Innovation in Cardiovascular Health (CICH) at Florida International University (FIU) is building an interdisciplinary ecosystem that brings together engineers, scientists, clinicians, and data experts to accelerate innovation in cardiovascular medicine. Made possible by a generous funding agreement from the Florida Heart Research Foundation, CICH supports a talent pipeline spanning high school trainees through senior faculty, including dedicated funding for Ph.D. and nursing students. Our purpose is to bridge fundamental discovery to technological and methodological innovation—and ultimately to measurable improvements in clinical practice—addressing persistent challenges in cardiovascular care and the ongoing need for more personalized approaches to diagnosis, monitoring, and treatment.

The Miami Heart Research Institute has been an international leader in cardiovascular research and education since 1944. Established originally as one of the world’s first cardiovascular research hospitals called the Miami Heart Institute, the hospital was sold in 1993 and the research and education divisions remained intact. Today, Miami Heart Research Institute is an independent, not-for-profit 501(c)(3) organization with the mission to stop heart disease through research, education and prevention.

Miami Heart Research Institute’s novel approach to collaborative research on the national level serves as a critical impetus to the introduction and development of innovative research efforts. This unique approach has proven highly effective in directing critical resources to open new and vital areas of scientific exploration.
