Florian Friedrich & FF Pictures: experience and references
Florian Friedrich · FF Pictures
Film production, HDR and display measurement: experience for your project.
Do you need to improve a technical workflow, publish photo and video content regularly, or set up an in-house studio? At FF Pictures, we combine consulting, filmmaking and post-production with expertise in picture quality and display metrology.
Florian Friedrich, our managing director, is your direct contact. We help your team bring lighting, camera equipment, colour processing and delivery into a coherent workflow, or produce the content for you in our own Munich studio. The project examples show how capture, picture finishing and technical assessment come together for specific tasks.
A reliable production workflow starts with your goals: what content does your audience need, where will it appear, and what can your team produce consistently? We advise on technical decisions and help you set up an in-house studio for your own photo and video production.
Your in-house studio
Plan lighting and camera equipment around your work
We tailor lighting, sets and backgrounds to your subjects and space, together with cameras, lenses, capture settings and image monitoring. We take existing equipment into account. Selection and setup reflect the formats you need, your budget and the people who will use the studio.
From capture to publication
Build a workflow your team can sustain
We help organise capture, backups, editing, colour correction and delivery in the photo and video formats you need. Together, we develop a practical publishing plan for your website, social media or other owned channels, aligning topics, the production schedule and responsibilities.
The EBU practical report “HDR in DaVinci Resolve” acknowledges Florian Friedrich / FF Pictures in its special credits. Colour management and conversion between HDR and SDR are among the interfaces we examine closely in your production workflow.
Florian Friedrich teaches BET’s expert seminar on display technology. It addresses measurement, calibration, HDR reproduction and display assessment for professional media production.
Product videos, technical explainers and campaign content need to communicate your message clearly and make effective use of imagery. We connect planning, capture and post-production with the formats your publishing channels require. These examples cover corporate production, film masters and technical demonstrations.
OSRAM / LEDVANCE · Sun@home
Advertising production with complete post-production
A series of clips for the Sun@home campaign was produced in a specially prepared house. Around 40 people, set decoration and reversible modifications for lighting were part of the production; editing, image finishing and sound turn the footage into the completed films.
Florian Friedrich handled post-production and colour analysis for the footage captured by Jeff Yurek in the Nanosys project. Further work includes a jointly produced quantum-dot demonstration video for Display Week 2026. These images make colour and visual impact tangible, with image preparation tailored to the display technology.
At the 2018 QLED & Advanced Displays Summit, Florian Friedrich demonstrated the HDR10+ mastering workflow. It brings display technology and post-production together: a master needs correct technical preparation while preserving the intended picture during playback.
Prefer to commission the production? We also create photo and video content for your publications in our own studio in Munich. We plan subjects and lighting, carry out the shoot and prepare the results for your website, social media, product communications or presentations. We can support individual shoots or an ongoing content programme shaped around your needs.
Display calibration: from home cinema to post-production
We calibrate individual home-cinema TVs and projectors as well as multiple monitors using different technologies in post-production facilities. Our experience in professional video production and display technology helps us bring targets, signal paths and the requirements of your work together.
Matching measured colour values can look different on different displays. When several monitors are viewed together, we therefore consider observer metamerism, assess the visual match and agree practical compromises with you.
We use Admesy Hera, Admesy PCM2X-271, Calman and our own measurement and calibration solution, InnoPQ™ DMIDMS.
A bright measurement patch against black does not fully describe how an HDR display handles a film. Surrounding content, changes over time and signal processing can affect the result. Measurement methods and test sequences need to expose those effects deliberately.
Admesy · InnoPQ™
HDR measurement with dynamic test sequences
In the collaboration with Admesy, HDR displays were investigated using InnoPQ™ by FF Pictures and the Prometheus instrument under deliberately changing image conditions. Measurement patches, surrounding content and timing can be combined in a controlled way. This reveals behaviour that a single static reading cannot explain, such as brightness changing with the surrounding image.
Florian Friedrich chairs the HDR subcommittee of the International Committee for Display Metrology (ICDM), contributing to the development of HDR measurement methods. With Timo Kunkel, he publishes scientific work on HDR display metrology and programmatic image sequences. At FF Pictures, we turn that knowledge into measurement plans and test material that make display behaviour understandable and support informed technical decisions.
The editorial work shown in this section is a small selection from the thousands of pages Florian Friedrich has written himself or overseen editorially together with a team.
A useful test turns measurements into understandable decisions. That experience also helps manufacturers, editors and production teams: what can viewers see, what can be reproduced, and which adjustment addresses the problem?
audiovision · Foto Digital · DVD+TV
Editorial responsibility
Long-time hardware-test lead and later TV test-lab lead at audiovision; former editor-in-chief of Foto Digital and writer for DVD+TV / TV Movie Multimedia. Equipment tests covered TVs, projectors, AV players, receivers and speakers.
Florian Friedrich’s home cinema tests connect lab results with listening, operation and practical setup. The AV receiver test published by WELT from AUDIO VIDEO FOTO BILD illustrates this approach: technical differences are assessed in terms of what they mean in everyday use.
Joe Kane and Florian Friedrich supplied Full HD and UHD test material in cooperation with AUDIO VIDEO FOTO BILD. Technical patterns and real footage help users check settings and judge their visible effect. That connection between measurement and visual assessment continues to guide our work.
Florian Friedrich has contributed his HDR and display measurement expertise to PRAD since 2014, including response-time measurements and new test and demonstration content. Experience with actual equipment tests helps us focus measurement methods on the questions that matter for image reproduction.
Our experience in specialist journalism and editorial leadership also supports your PR and product communications. Florian Friedrich helps assess technical claims and develop clear press materials, technical background articles and product demonstrations. We combine accurate explanations with suitable photography and video, working alongside your communications or PR team.
Tell us your goal, planned publications and existing equipment. We agree the services you need: consulting, studio setup, production in Munich, display calibration, post-production or technical communications. We work with teams across Germany and internationally, in English or German. Consulting and project reviews can take place remotely; hands-on work on site is planned for the task.
