Fred & I met here in Phoenix, Arizona in 2015. We became instant friends during a “turnaround” trip that I was invited on by my youngest Big Brother. While hanging out in the kitchen watching her cook, Grandmama invited me to come back out from Vegas to help her friend Dwayne with some work on the back house of her property. I had been living in Las Vegas for nearly 10 years. At that time I was losing my sobriety after completing a 90day outpatient program. Fred was gifted to Grandma by my cousin Angela for her Birthday a year or so before. He grew up in a big front yard only limited by a trolley that ran from a post on the porch to a large tree near the edge of the yard. He had a comfortable house on the porch and was fed breakfast and dinner daily by the loving hands of Grandmama herself. I tell people all the time… “Grandma raised Fred!” when they mention what a cool dog he is. I inherited Fred after my Grandma was called to Heaven in January of 2021. I inherited a Son, Brother, Friend & Protector. He inherited my last name, Hartfield. Join us every Sunday to celebrate the “Weekly Anniversary” of my sobriety from alcohol.
